Re: Pilot employment in their 50s?
If you're hired at Jazz in your 50s, you might even get to enjoy the next contract for a few months before you retire!

Re: Best guess when recalls could happen
Any idea where we’re at on the seniority list after this last round of recalls? Trying to figure out where I sit on the list now. T I'm pretty sure top of the inactive list is 1571. I heard there are quite a few people who have waived their call back for now so 1571 isn't necessarily the "top of th...

Re: Traning bond or ... non flying job
Pretty sure the collective agreement at Jazz says that if they are to recall you while you have a contract or agreement with another employer, they can provide an LOA and that such a request shall not be unreasonably denied.

That looks about adequate for a King Air or a Navajo. Not for an ATR.schnitzel2k3 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 23, 2018 10:32 am Somehow I don't think a spray bottle, a 30' ladder and a warming pad are going to entice any flight crew to de-ice and should never have counted as 704 / 705 de-icing equipment.

Hmmm...There seems to be a trend in the comments here that proper deicing equipment and support isn't readily available at Northern stations.

Yes, that's exactly what I mean.PostmasterGeneral wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2017 5:38 am I hardly think that’s what he’s saying. If it’s -30 with no active precip and all you’ve got is a bit of impact ice adhering to the boots, don’t waste the fluid you have with you. You may really need it at your next station stop if it’s snowing for example.

Re: De icing
Ugh. Given recent events, I see where this is going. Most smaller operators carry small canisters of type 4. I've worked in Manitoba for a while and I can't say I've ever seen anyone take of with a dangerous amount of ice. Expecting a King Air or a Metro to waste what little fluid they have availabl...

Re: much needed advice for newly graduated student pilot
Keewatin dispatch and flying positions are rotational. There aren't too many jobs in Southern Canada that will allow you to rotate at the stage you're currently at in your career. While southern rotational jobs are out there, your best bet would be to look further North first.

I have been doing medevacs in Manitoba for a couple years now and quite like the job in terms of different diagnosis in patients... What different diagnosis in patients?? Most of the patients have minor injuries or suicidal tendencies. Its same ole same ole. I'm thinking you are dilusional. I'm sur...

Oh my god. I don't know where to begin... I was very much involved in the medevac scene in Manitoba for three years. The duty days are horrendous, the airports are third world and the lack of organisation as a whole is mind blowing. With all the movement these days, there is an extreme lack of exper...

Uh, how is WestJet management any different? I imagine their main concern is making money too.But in an email sent to employees last month, company president and CEO Gregg Saretsky spoke out against union drives, claiming unions were misleading employees and only concerned about making money.

Re: Strike begins for 150 Winnipeg airport workers
I think anyone who works full time should be entitled to a living wage regardless of the job. I don't necessarily think it's ridiculous that WAA employees are asking for more money - I just think the contrast in their wages compared to other people in the industry is ridiculous.

Strike begins for 150 Winnipeg airport workers
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/winnipeg-airport-strike-pickets-1.4218616 In real dollars, the proposed changes would move the salary range for unionized employees from the current range of $25-$56 per hour to $28-$65 per hour, which means the lowest salaried full-time employee would move fro...

Re: July 1, 2017
I hope this will result in medevac operators moving away from the 24/7 on-call set up and to more of a day/night shift arrangement. To do a 14 hour day shift, sit for a night and a day and then be expected to do a 14 hour night shift is a completely out of date model and needs to be done away with.

Re: Carson King Air Medevac Captain
The short and easy answer is no. However, if you are single, or d-I-n-k, yes, you could afford a place near the airport on their starting salary. Otherwise, it's the Burbs. You're looking at $1500 per month for a one bedroom within 15 min drive of the airport. YVR is expensive...only come here if y...
