Re: share what you make.
Years ago, I was contacted by a company that wanted me to modify an ethernet driver that I wrote, to support a fiber PHY instead of twisted pair. I looked at it, and quoted four days at $1000/day. It wasn't exactly going to take me four days, if you know what I mean, but ... Documentation. Testing. ...

Re: Should I withdraw from Seneca's Aviation degree program?
I am greatly disappointed when people merely chase a piece of paper, which could be a CPL or a BSc. Unfortunately this is almost always the case. Far more important than the piece of paper, is the skill and knowledge which it is supposed to signify, that you have obtained. If you have the skill and ...

Re: Should I withdraw from Seneca's Aviation degree program?
I am not anti-degree or anti-education, by any means. For example, I strongly believe that everyone on AvCan should take their time and work through Vol 1, 2 and 3 of this: www.feynmanlectures.caltech.edu However, I also strongly doubt that this information is required for a pilot to watch an autopi...

Re: Should I withdraw from Seneca's Aviation degree program?
If you want to be a pilot: 1) learn a trade (eg welder). If you play your cards right, you can probably get your tuition paid for. 2) while you are plying your trade, get your pilot licences and ratings part time at an FTU. Do not go into debt. Do NOT buy anything on credit (car, toys, etc). Don't b...

Re: Starting approach at intermediate fix?
I've never understood why this is such a conundrum for people. If you're flying into an airport with ATC, they will give you vectors. If you're flying into an uncontrolled airport out in the middle of BF nowhere, ATC couldn't care less what you do - you own the airspace until you cancel IFR in the a...

Re: Most demanding airplane?
Oddly, the AvCan "hot sticks" will tell you thatthe most demanding airplane I've flown, by far, was an M4 Maule
they find them easy to fly. However, they almost
all get wrecked.

Re: Two female Passengers charged after sunwing flight diver
I flew 250-300 in the last 3 yrs 250-300 hrs per year isn't bad, these days. Mind you, you're not going to get promoted, doing that. You will think I am talking out of my @ss, but I suspect that you will find an inverse relationship between rank and hours flown. How many hours did the CDS fly last ...

Re: Be a Better Pilot
Yup. Many times, I have found that one pedal goes down a lot further than the other one, which is of marginal airworthiness. This is generally caused by worn pads (and is solved by topping up the fluid) but is also caused by the o-ring on the piston squaring off and leaking. A friend of mine had a f...

Re: Should I withdraw from Seneca's Aviation degree program?
Getting a four year degree to fly a highly automated aircraft straight and level is bizarre. It would make more sense to get a degree in welding, or operating a crane, or perhaps a bulldozer. It's important to understand the difference between a line pilot (e.g. Asiana 214, AF447, Colgan 3407) that ...

Yes. Run away as fast as you can.does anyone else have "wisdom" they wish to share?
No hatred here. They just scare the crapshare your hatred
out of me. If you're going to fly them, I
hope you're a lot braver than I am.

Re: Incident at Delta Air Park
Were "average pilot skills" required? Remember, when a wing drops, counter it will full opposite aileron to pick the wing up, and full stick back, to make the airplane climb. Rest your feet comfortably on the rudder pedal footrests. I'm sure he flew the correct airspeed. It's a good thing old airpla...

reduce the angle of attack As my father once told me, there is a difference between scratching your @ss, and tearing yourself a new one. For many, many, many aircraft, Beggs/Mueller works wonderfully, because it stops the pilot from doing bad things (with elevator and aileron) for a while, and lets...

When I go flying today, I will wear
a green shirt, in honour of my Irish
heritage. We shall see if a charge is
laid in respect of this.
PS Never understood the whole kerfuffle
about the night currency thing. I can get
night current in 4000 feet of runway in
less than 60 seconds. So can you.

I am rather partial to the lobster roll at
the seafood shack on Duval St. I also
highly recommend their shrimp and beer
batter onion rings.
For the hoity toity, try A&B Lobster House.
