Re: "Digital" 406 MHz ELTs to Be Mandatory - TC

Another 406 benefit for SAR is the signal identifies the aircraft. The owner can be contacted before sending out a search effort in the case of "false alarms". That is assuming it is registered correctly.

Re: Reducing Insurance Coverage/Premiums for Private Aircraft

My Cherokee was insured with Magnes. It was straight forward when I cancelled, no questions. Refund was processed as per the agreement.

Re: Montreal City Tour

I would never put my wheels down again and Les Cedres in an airplane I had respect for. Very poor runway & taxiway conditions. My Cherokee was pushing down weeds as a I taxied, and I could see the loose chunks of asphalt before I even flared.

Re: Needless steep climbouts

Interesting conversation folks! I have simulated this several times when I had my Cherokee 140 with similar results as photofly. Mind you I was prepared mentally for what i was about to do and had recently practiced rope breaks in a glider. Boy does that get your attention when your instructor relea...

Re: Possible error in W+B amendment?

I once went to fly an airplane after it had an amendment made on the W&B, but the new C of G didn't seem right with 2 people in the front seats. I would have had to put 100 lbs in the baggage compartment! Found an error, but decided to check previous. All 4 amendments since new had errors that I...

Re: VIDEO - Aftermath of Fortunate Playground Emergency Landing

He did fairly well on the landing considering the field adjacent the playground is only 450 feet long! I suspect he turned and hit the fence at the opposite end. If you look at the satellite view of the area, certainly not a place I'd want to try and put anything down.

Re: FlightPlan Go alternative on PC?

I was never happy with their software anyways. Found it very buggy on 2 different tables, and gave up on looking at the ads. I'll just buy foreflight when I start doing longer flights again, 10x better.

I've read in many other parts of the world, you only have to quarantine until your test results come back.

I lost a prop once...Best thing I did was get back in a plane a week later. It took a few months of mental processing to put it to bed.

Re: Buying vs Renting

for less than 50 hrs / year, my suggestion would be to find a local flying club to become a member of. They will have less restrictions that a flight school. i.e. Overnight, going for a burger and letting it sit for a few hours, currency etc. I've owned a Cherokee 140 and was flying it close to 100 ...

Re: info on layoffs and contract employees I see

Yes there are 2 sides to having your employment terminated, employment standards act & common law. ESA dictates bare (& pathetic) minimums, but under common law you could be eligible for 2-4 weeks of severance per YEAR of employment. There are many factors that could play into this amount. A...

It could easily be done in a Cherokee. They have a handbrake available, in fact mine only had a handbrake and no toe brakes.

Re: Flying to YUL

I think you'll find the worst part of a larger & unfamiliar airport is the ground taxi portion. Once I stopped in the middle of a taxi at a large airport to double check the map (at night too!). The controller called me up and asked if I needed assistance. My response was yes, I'm possibly lost....

That one's been listed off & on for 6 years now. They even tried to sell shares at one point.
