Well, I'm off on another road trip (since finding work over internet during fall/winter proved fruitless). Heading west from Eastern ON. Short of Manitoba, I've got places to sleep across the country, but, outside of that, does anyone have any last minute advice?

Re: Contacting an MF/FSS
If it's a relatively quiet MF (ie: YPL, YMO), sure, I could see doing the bare minimum calls. My thinking is that doing the bare minimum at a busy MF (ie: YXL, YTS) isn't a great idea, since, if you're waiting till 5.01 until calling, there's usually a good chance that at 5.20 someone with a minute-...

Also, if you know the controller's busy, and you get a big change, tell the controller before you start flipping switches. Worst case scenario, they'll give you a "yeah yeah, whatever", best case, you avoid colliding with someone because of an altimeter change.

So, would I be correct in saying that Jazz is basically going to be a Dash 8 airline (and I guess Voyageur is the CRJ/International branch of Chorus now?)

So, all of this hubbub is because he, being a proactive customer, has notified AC of his mobility needs. Fair enough, but the fact remains that it is possible that the needs for mobility cannot be accommodated with the aircraft which serves the route. I don't know this, just surmising based upon wh...

The enumerated grounds of discrimination are outlined in Section 15(1) of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. They are: race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability. There are also analogous grounds but this is a more complicated issue beyond the scop...

I'd say you don't even need to speak French. Really! All you need to do is learn the terms for take off, downwind (which is sometimes "le downwind"), final, French numerals (Runway Twenty-Ten... what a language!), and the words for the compass directions (which, let's be honest, sound almost like En...

If this forum had any balls, they'd have a "wall of shame" with all the scammers who want "up front cash" "training bonds" "ramp time" etc before a commercially licensed pilot could get a FLYING job. ... and then the companies would be free to post names of pilots who agreed to stay for X amount of...

Re: Starting training, basic CPL, is it worth it?
If I were in your position I would buy a Cessna 150 or 152. You can find a good one for 20-30k, there is lots of reading to do before you write a check for a training aircraft Emphasis mine. There are several good threads about buying an aircraft around here, I would suggest going through them very...

That's why I said "almost free". (You do still need to wait around till night, and have a willing instructor to wait with you!)CpnCrunch wrote:It doesn't seem very useful, as you still need the same amount of dual and solo time.

Re: Starting training, basic CPL, is it worth it?
Personally, a bare CPL (ie: no float, night, instrument, or multi endorsements) is... kind of useless. You're limited to basically day, single engine, VFR operations. Now, there are jobs out there that only need that (pipeline patrol, some smaller survey work, drop zones), but even those might need ...

... they have a waiver from TC to write the full exams without the flight time and they do not need the 250 hours to obtain an SIC type rating. A waiver on a CPL? Last I checked (since I'm in that great "finished training with less than 250" club), the 250 is a hard minimum for First Officer in a T...

Of course I rememberd that an airplane climbs better without flaps, so I raised them. I forgot about the initial sink. I managed a 100 fpm climb I did my PPL in the winter, and got it early spring. The program then switched us into a different type, and by the time I got solo work in it, it was a 3...
