Re: C Series lands at EGLC. Toronto Island loses out. Again.

I am all for commercial air service at the Island, but I think the “seats” it can serve is pretty close to the max for its infrastructure. Adding larger airplanes would require less flights as it is already a gong show on the land side of the operation. Not enough space right now for taxi service an...

Re: Jazz or Sunwing ?

Jazz vs Sky A few big differences below 1. Benefits. Jazz’s benefits are way more in depth than Sky’s however you also PAY way more for it. A guy/girl in his late 20’s or early 30’s is not interested in financing the “freedom 60 plan” and pay for an old guy’s last five years. The premiums are expens...

Congratulations to the pilots at Sky Regional. Way to step up and be part of a global pilot community.

Re: Union at Sky

How is the drive going? If it is this far along and they haven"t filed yet, means it is very close. Reasons? 1. Attrition. 2. Many supporters who are too lazy to sign and send in cards.  If this fails, then expect a pushback from the company in working conditions (because they can) and g...

I agree! What is taking so much time? I believe they are waiting on some people who gave their word that they will sign a card. Come on folks! Dig it up and give it to an OC member! 5 bucks! That"s all! Anyways, I believe there is a great video being released with lots of Q"s and A's about ALPA and ...

I don't see anyone asking for a Ritz Carlton. Just asking for a safe hotel where you feel comfortable going for a walk and getting some fresh air. Sky Regional's wellness program suggests strongly to go outside as it is good for our mental state.

US Regionals?….Good luck. They can't even find pilots to fly point to point in the US. Plus, I think they are a lot more expensive than say 5 years ago. International ULCC's?….Isn't Norwegian just about bankrupt? Jazz too expensive?….probably. They have a VP for this and a VP for that and then 6 mor...

Re: Swoop Blacklist

I get the impression that there is no ownership for the creation of Sky Regional by ACPA. Wasn't there a clause in the old contract that limited regional flying to just one carrier? (JAZZ). I know, I know, that clause was taken out by FOS arbitration. But was it? Not pointing fingers here, but I hat...

Pros and Cons of owning a Maule

I am looking at owning a smaller float plane that can handle two adults and a child. I have been searching N. American websites for C172, C180, and C182's and have come across several Maules. To be honest, I don't really know too much about them other than a casual word here and there that their win...

Re: PML between Express Carriers

If it becomes an excercise of the management "whipsaw" then we are all in trouble. Since they are key leaders of the piloting "profession" in Canada, I sincerely hope that ACPA/ALPA leadership are up to the task and move beyond the tribalism of the past. This is a company initiative due in part to ...

Re: Rumor about %30 pay increase

I hate to be the pessimist here but Jazz/AC have spent a lot of money to get rid of the A scale/DB pension and this sound a bit too much like a self-serving rumor. If Jazz was having trouble filling its crewing requirements I'd suspect they'd ask mainline to take fewer of its pilots. Correct me if ...

Wow. I am sorry you feel that way Tailgunner. Many of the fine pilots I know over at AC don't share your views and in fact wish for better working conditions at the Express carriers. I never said conditions should be on par but a serious improvement could be made. Remember the airplanes Sky operates...

Re: Sky regional

I agree. People still are not realizing that the PML 2.0 is UP TO 80% Express pilots being hired by Air Canada. It could be only 10% or 20%. So Rudder is correct in saying look at your current conditions and see if they are satisfactory. Air Canada has never liked to hire from their own in the past....

Re: Sky regional

I wouldn't say the working atmosphere is horrible. But it's not great either. Please look past the starting two year salaries and look at the entire package before making a decision. Way way way more pilots that chose Jazz over Sky, three years ago, are at mainline now. The scary thing about signing...

Shit, the whole industry may as well sign for ALPA. As a WHOLE, we could have national representation. Imagine that. Re: New CPA and flowthrough to Air Canada?

At Sky Regional we were asked to forward a resume to Air Canada by Aug 31st, 2015. Out of aproximately 200 pilots on our list at the time probably 75 percent forwarded their resume. Then Air Canada proceeded with a telephone interview to those who applied and I would say about 30 out of 150 were giv...

Re: New CPA and flowthrough to Air Canada?

This is just my opinion. I don't think AC will be able to pull that many from the express carriers, as the feed is very important to their growth strategy. They will simply say no to the more senior guys at the regionals to retain experience, as these guys/girls will have no where else to go. Pay wi...

Re: Pilot mobility agreement

The Jazz PML was/is all about $$$$. I think it pains some Air Canada types that this deal exists. It was/is a good deal for the Jazz pilots who were facing a concessionary contract negotiation with Jazz management and Air Canada. It moved the pilot list immensely and that benefits everyone including...

Re: Sky regional

Yes, Jazz's starting hourly wage is lower but the total package is larger than Sky's in my opinion. Benefits, scheduling rules, and pension more than make up the difference. Compare a 5 yr Jazz pilot vs a 5 yr Sky pilot and see who is further ahead. Also you can't compare PML's as only Jazz has an o...

Re: Air Canada Pool

Q....why doesn't ACPA take any ownership on who gets hired at AC? You would think being a professional union shop they would require candidates to come from a professional unionized shop. Art ACPA, or any Union, has zero say in who gets hired. That's not their mandate and that's not how unions work...

Re: Air Canada Pool

AC has been pretty selective from Sky. So far successful candidates are from the 5 big schools or hold a university degree. Even MFC or having multiple internal recommends are not cutting it. So, if you are coming to Sky just for the so called PML, please give it a long hard thought. However, I agre...
