Re: Part time float jobs?

You might be able to find someone needing part time help on the dock and maybe occasional flying if they have a 185 or something. Around here in NWO there are quite a few part timers flying but they are all high time guys flying Otters and bigger stuff like that. A 100 hour float pilot normally need...

Re: Skylink. YWG

I won't get into the story here but it's definitely not a place I would recommend anyone go. There seems to be pretty big operational and management issues. If you do decide to work for them and they offer you a position make sure you get their offer in writing, especially if you are moving to a dif...

Re: Question about Cubana routing

I don't think any of the Cubana A320's they fly to Canada are Cuban registered though. The last one I was on was registered in Lithuania and a few years before that it was an Irish one.

Re: Didn't know the RCMP had float planes?

They have two that I know of. A Caravan and a Quest Kodiak, both amphibs. The van has been around for a long time. Maybe one of the 206's is also on floats, i'm not sure.

Re: Napping AC FO bumps controls.

Do flight attendants go around and wake up passengers when they can't visibly see their seatbelt fastened? Yes, they are supposed to. Clearly they are supposed to but I have never seen it happen. I always wear my seatbelt but often I sleep with a blanket covering it and i've never been asked if it ...

Re: Napping AC FO bumps controls.

The report said that many of the passengers were sleeping. Do flight attendants go around and wake up passengers when they can't visibly see their seatbelt fastened? Maybe she was sleeping when the seatbelt sign came on and was asleep when it happened. I agree that she probably needs to take some re...

Re: Life of a Float Pilot

Wake up at 4:30am for a 5am charter. Hopefully I fueled the plane and got it ready the night before or the dockhand did it. Load up drums of fuel, propane, groceries or whatever. Fly to the lodge, unload. Install passenger seats, load up and go. Repeat 4 or 5 times a day. At least once a day there w...

Transitioning from floats to IFR

So i've done 3 seasons on floats now, most recently on the Caravan and Beaver and I did my group 1 IFR last winter. I started looking for work a few weeks before float season ended and I was just offered a single pilot IFR Caravan job. For anyone that has gone a similar route, how did you find the t...

Re: Fuel leak emergency-safe landing but still burned out

I was flying a 185 on floats a few years ago and noticed the fuel flow gauge started filling up with gas. I headed back to the base and when the gauge filled up I had gas dripping from the panel onto the floor. After the flight I got called a "pussy" by management for not completing the trip, so I q...

Re: Road trip starts tomorrow morning

I didn't know there were any Protege 5's still on the road. In southern Ontario they all completely rotted away, especially around the rear quarters.

Good luck with the rest of the trip :)

Re: Floats in the GTA

There's pretty much nothing in the GTA as far as I know. I know Georgian Bay Airways doesn't let you rent after you train with them. Not sure about the place in Orillia. Maybe call Cameron Air and see if they can put you in touch with somebody.

Re: Dock vs. Ramp First Job

I think you should try the course that cat is talking about. The last pilot I hired from Air Hart was taught by another low time float pilot with no operational expirence. Never got to fly the plane at gross weight, etc. I for one don't care if you have 50 hrs on floats from a puppy mill , I still ...

Re: Flying in Red Lake, On.

Show up with a good attitude, if this is your first float job don't act like you know how to fly floats because you really don't have a clue. Red Lake is your usual small northern Ontario town. I had a good time there. The LCBO is closed on Sunday but you can buy beer any day at the grocery store in...

Re: Low-timer Road Trip

Glorifieddriver, in my experience most float operators (around NWO anyway) do not want to hire pilots that have an IFR. It's a valid point, how serious about floats are you when you spent $10,000+ on a multi/IFR but only have 7 hours on floats.` I think you'll have better luck at operators that fly ...

Re: Superior Caravan Captain

I read on another thread that Van drivers start at 54k. That sounds fine for a year round position but since this is just a seasonal job (ad says there is a possibility of year round work) it is a little low in my opinion. I would like to hear more specific details though. Illya said in November th...

I know this is a little off topic but did any of you Pasco guys have the chance to fly the Top Gear UK people from Trail to YVR? Heard they were filming out there for the new season and they caught a ride.

Re: I'm Doing Resumes Again

Hey xsbank,

I've been reading this forum for years but never posted. I signed up so that I could ask for your resume help. My current resume is a mess. I can't PM yet so as soon as I have enough posts (not sure how many I need) to be able to send PM's I will be in touch with you.

Thanks!
