Re: DHC6 autofeather
Going back over 20 years ago - we left the system turned off most of the time... floats/wheels or skis. We NEVER had the system on during the approach - only the British were that stupid enough to do that, and it caused some horrific incidents/accidents. The poor system design is the reason we left ...

Re: Getting my Class 1 medical renewed outside of Canada
Thanks for the feedback people. I have a job interview that got lined up before we left Canada and the interviewer scheduled the interview/meeting right after we are back and I need a valid Class 01 on my Canadian ATPL to attend the interview. I have two valid Class 01 medicals but on foreign ATPLs....

Getting my Class 1 medical renewed outside of Canada
Was wondering how that works - will be on holidays over in Europe with wife/kids and thought it might be easier to get my Class 1 renewed by one of the listed Docs on the Transport website. Can these Docs access a candidates file electronically directly from their medical examination facilities, or ...

Re: WJ B-767 Fleet questions
WS also had some contract instructors (I want to say from Boeing) who flew with our pilots in the first few months of 767 operations, to help ensure a quick learning curve for the initial cadre. That is fairly standard ops in the airline world, whenever a completely new type is introduced, factory ...

Re: WJ B-767 Fleet questions
The bigger question here now for me is why my question solicits sarcastic replies that contain negative and agressive undertones. Not the finest art of communication. The internet really does take the person out of the communication - I am pretty sure if you or the mod that posted the original repl...

Re: WJ B-767 Fleet questions
So what you're telling the world is a high seniority B737 pilot at WJ who has never had exposure to longhaul ops can bid him/herself right into the left seat from the get-go? I applaud those who have this opportunity - just very surprising compared to regular INTERNATIONAL industry practice. Every ...

Re: WJ B-767 Fleet questions
CP of the 767 is an ex-C3 Check A (757) and is supported by some of our top talent (Standards support). Most of the Captain's have recent ETOPs PAC experience and a few with NAT experience prior to the 67. Almost all of the FO's are highly experienced in ETOPS PAC and NAT. Some have been Captains h...

Re: WJ B-767 Fleet questions
I am wondering how pilots who have never flown longhaul ops can use seniority to bid left seats on longhaul aircraft without any previous experience. WestJet was flying to Hawaii, Dublin and Glasgow with the 737 before getting the 767. Is that enough experience to fly a 767 to London Gatwick? Thank...

Re: WJ B-767 Fleet questions
Some exposure to longhaul ops is a normal industry practice before being able to bid a longhaul left seat. Not sure what industry you are referring to as that is not normal practice at all in aviation. Trucking perhaps? Every airline in North America that I am familiar with bids positions by senior...

WJ B-767 Fleet questions
I'm just curious, is WJ crewing the B-767 fleet with their very own pilots or, are these birds crewed by another company? I am wondering how pilots who have never flown longhaul ops can use seniority to bid left seats on longhaul aircraft without any previous experience. Some exposure to longhaul op...

Re: Low time pilot opportunities abroad
That's a great outlook BCnomad! I agree - a guy/gal should get out and make their career happen, not wait around holding out for a typerating on the forklift or coffee machine as you said so correctly: humping shit around!! I can remember being told to go see Frank Kellner back in day only to be tol...

Swiss Helo Pilots in Canada
Am not in the Helicopter industry but do know a few guys who are. I was recently told that the son of a retired friend has been driving all over Canada looking for work as an entry level helicopter pilot for several years now - and no luck. He has worked all the hard jobs on the ground in heli loggi...

Re: Question for the wide body guys/gals
Another question for the widebody drivers. How do you kill time during cruise? Position reports, fuel checks, ATC communications, unique airport operations, weather updates... you know, pilot stuff. Then the other stuff; eating, studying, family bragging, coffee, debating world politics, solving al...

Re: WestJet almost puts one in the drink
Well at least WJ didn't get all wet!! There is something to be learned from each occurence, incident and accident. Shit happens and we should all be happy that they didn't land short - their training and high standards came together and a go-around was executed and a normal landing resulted. I just ...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Thank you DialDriver... that is exactly the problem: I have honored each and every contract I have ever been offered, either signed or verbally agreed upon. Since this email - two new offers have come and gone - and, a third was just offered. I don't want to uproot my family and head off to another ...
