Re: any pilots fly the snip mine/Bronson/Johnny Mountain?
I appreciate that this is tad late but... I'm not a pilot but an exploration geologist who worked for Cominco in the 1980s during the exploration stages of the Snip mine in 1982-86 I was there when the Alaska based Noresman crashed on our dead end runway that we had built to service the camp. It fl...

Re: Fill 'Er Up
This is one of those things I’ve never had happen to me. Is not checking fuel before start and top of climb a thing at these organizations? Several years ago, I started a thread called “A Top of Climb Check”. It suggested that at the top of climb, the pilot do a check of all the switches and gauges...

Lots of DHC6 under 704 being flown by CPLs. I was a 704 Captain on a 1900 before I had my ATPL.

Re: PASCO’s Constant Job Ads
80 credit hours seems to be the word. So a pilot flying a King Air at Carson will have to take a $25k pay cut to fly a SAAB for Pasco as DEC under their “new” scales. And they have ads up all of the time, too. Gee, I wonder why PASCO isn’t finding anyone? Are you referencing medevac pay at Carson? ...

Re: ATPL saron and samra
There's a few threads on here with questions from the exam but it all depends on what version you get so I wouldn't rely on those. I wrote mine recently and there weren't many surprises, maybe 2 or 3 on each exam where I genuinely hadn't seen anything like them before. Just know the stuff you're sup...

Look good, are nice to walk around on and the hatches are great. Performance not so good, don’t handle crosswinds as well as 4930s either. In big water you can feel them flexing and moving, undecided how I feel about it. 4930s are the better choice in my opinion.

Hahaha, yall are funny. I will defend myself and say I know the difference between the fuel vent and the pitot tube. XD. To be more specific. This foam would collapse in my hands, and would more or less break at the lightest touch, before dissolving into the ground. When I told my instructor about ...

Re: Landing legally off-airport for recreation
How about landing on the ramp/apron? Helicopters do it all the time. At uncontrolled airports in particular I haven’t been able to find any reg that you could get whacked for over it, although I haven’t dug deep enough to get the balls to do it yet.

Now, it's time to depart, and most of those adverse factors are present again. And, you have the added factor that you forgot to sketch the lake and landing and possible takeoff areas while you were up, and had the view. Now, with no aerodrome diagram, distances, or preferred departure paths, you'r...

Blackfly Bay is sure easier to find than “62.7 nautical miles northeast of pikangikum” if you don’t have a GPS, maybe even if you do... So long as it is published on a VNC or referenced to something that is ie. blackfly bay on mosquito lake.

Short Ho will fit 7 pax no problem with full inboards even without the BLR upgross. Good for 2 hours and VFR reserve. Nothing stupid about it. Not something I’d want to be renting out though.

Re: 182 down by Smithers
I agree with the idea that a ditching is favourable to trees in many situations and the impact is often not terribly violent. However, even in the middle of June at much lower water levels I wouldn't like my chances if I were to jump into the Babine River in a controlled manner today. That water is ...

Re: 182 down by Smithers
It is hard to not notice that the TSB early on commented that the operator had a section in its manual in which it was "suggested" that when river levels were high and currents fast, forced approaches should be made into trees rather than water. It seems that there was a message in that inclusion. ...

For what it’s worth, Transport did not accept my letter from the website. When I told Harvs about it they told me tough shit. Wasn’t impressed, however the content is quite good and I scored very well on the exams I used it for.

Re: Why would a scheduled air service be flying VFR in this weather?
Is popping a few "light clouds" VFR really more dangerous than hard IMC just because you didn't file? Often on days with wx similar to what you describe it's much easier to stay VFR below the true ceiling and even inside the lower wisps you can still see ground below and in front. I'd rather pop th...

If you want to work for a company that requires IATRA then write it before you apply. If you say "pending" you won't stand a chance against the guy who has it already done.

600 hours in a year is actually really decent especially for a low-timer job. Flying survey I did 200-300 a year, I don't know if your gig will get you more than 600 but if it does then take it hands down. I'm a fan of PIC too but a quick look at the job ads section will tell you it doesn't matter m...

Re: Cessna 408 - FedEx orders 100
Looks like a C208 vs. -3T type scenario, totally different airplane compared to the twotter. Looks like Cessna really nailed this one though, and with that order secured it already seems destined for success. Can't see too much overlap in the market with the -6 though, I'm sure there are some situat...
