Re: Renting a Cessna 172 in the USA
Based on the regulations established by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the United States, the biennial flight review (BFR) requirement applies to pilots who hold U.S. pilot certificates. If you're exercising the privileges of your U.S. private pilot license (PPL), you'll need to meet a...

Re: Jetstream 31 type rating in Canada
I looked up this a few years ago. Last J32 renewal I did was with Flight Safety in St Louis. At the time there was a sim waiting to be setup in Seattle. Not aware of any sims in Canada though. A friend of mine did his type rating on the aircraft for an operator here. pascan also operates the j32.

It's just scary that strangers on the internet squabble with each other on points for weeks over matters that they have no influence on, actually inhabit professional flight decks.

You sir, have a deal. I'll get the bank draft organized immediately. What's your name? I'm not giving out that information for free; you get the details when you show me the bank draft and proof of your income for the two years required. Send me a PM and we'll discuss. Or is your mouth literally wr...

[Yes, I certainly did. I'll tell you what, you take the amount you made in your last year as an expat, subtract what you made in your first year back in Canada, and get a bank draft for that amount made up in my name. Then, I'll give you my home address, and you can come here and meet me personally...

Re: Congrats
A year or so ago, I read an interview with a woman who lives in Vancouver, and was lamenting the high cost of living. She freely admitted that she could have made more money literally anywhere else in Canada , but she didn't think it was fair that she should have to choose her income over her lifes...

Re: Congrats
Any AT pilots who "wouldn't touch AC with a ten foot pole" you are all welcome to not come over when the time comes. Swoop, SW, Flair would all be happy to have you. Lots of AC pilots would be happy to see you go elsewhere if you feel you are too good to slum it at Air Canada. As someone who has be...

I've lived overseas, and I wouldn't go back. I like that I can hop down to the river and go fishing. I like that I can go out into the woods on Crown land and pitch a tent wherever I want without a reservation or permit. I like that I can go snowboarding in powder, not manufactured slush. I like th...

Re: Salary, benefits, and reality.
There have been companies that have posted jobs here that I know for a fact offer some of the best compensation/retirement packages in the industry, yet have not mentioned in their post, nor are their employees allowed to disclose it here. It goes both ways, you want info? Get off the computer and ...

What are the implications of an illegal strike? Government orders pilots back to work and nobody obeys? Can't arrest/fire every single pilot. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1989_Australian_pilots%27_dispute A few days earlier, Labor Prime Minister Bob Hawke declared a national emergency and allowe...

The one big caveat to working in the U.S though is health insurance - and while the net take home is significantly higher, you have a sizeable portion removed for your insurance. I lived in the states for quite a few years and had PPO insurance. It was about $60 per month. Hardly a drop compared to...

When I wrote the exams for the ATPL the answers were all hand written and were marked based on what you actually knew as shown in your hand written answers, in today's world you have the multiple choice crutch to help you. Here is the airplane that was used in the exam. http://www.flugzeuginfo.net/...

Re: Which Canadian Airlines expect their Flight Deck Crew to also be Cabin Groomers?
One could argue that airlines charging for ratings is academic as well until all airlines start doing it. Or maybe pay to fly like in other parts of the world god forbid. They all started with just one company doing it. That is true. However the choice to do any of these things still rests with the...

Re: Which Canadian Airlines expect their Flight Deck Crew to also be Cabin Groomers?
The question of grooming the airplane is really academic. If you feel you should not have to groom the airplane don't work there. One could argue that airlines charging for ratings is academic as well until all airlines start doing it. Or maybe pay to fly like in other parts of the world god forbid...
