Re: Ottawa TCA ring size?

The authoritative document is the Designated Airspace Handbook, available for free on the Nav Canada website.

The current one is available at https://www.navcanada.ca/en/dah20230810.pdf

The detailed description of the Ottawa TCA starts on Page 96.

Re: Flair Airlines - Planes seized

Not sure what this means for them, could be nothing, could be something - but they got in bed with some no bullsheet mf's down in New York. I think their head office might be in Jersey. I have pondered this one. I will give them the benefit of the doubt that they are organized enough to be aware of...

Re: Regs on Canadian aircraft "residency"

CAR 202.15(3) discusses a portion of flight time within Canada during a 6-month period for an entity that is not Canadian but is incorporated or formed under the laws of Canada or a province. Otherwise I have never heard of any “residency” requirement before, and such a thing would defy logic, so lo...

Yup. Once you get out of North America the customer experience goes up considerably.

As for pay and benefits, North America is the place to be, unless you are looking for a mercenary contract in China.

Re: Airbus single pilot operations certification

This is definitely the future however I think it will take awhile (20+ years) for regulators to approve it and it would probably start with cargo airlines first. We don't even have self driving trucks in wide use yet. I think we are closer than that. I am guessing as little as 4 years away for carg...

Re: FAA Class 3 Medical - Does it meet ICAO Class 2 standards?

I am not a doctor so I can't contrast the medical standards but an FAA (or Transport Canada) Third Class/Category 3 Medical is an equivalent of an ICAO Class 2 Medical. An ICAO Class 2 Medical Assessment applies to the applicants for, and holders of private pilot licenses, glider pilot licenses and ...

Re: FAA 1st Class Medical

Yes indeed. Standard 424.16 Authority to Conduct Medical Examinations says you can. Not sure how long it takes for this, though. I did this routinely years ago. In the good times before COVID, it typically would take about 2 months before I got a new sticker in the mail. Until then, I wouldn’t have ...

Re: Are the Vaxxed Grounded?

The answer: NO. Transport Canada has become aware of misinformation circulating in relation to COVID-19 vaccines and aviation Medical Certificate holders. Transport Canada would like to state clearly that COVID-19 vaccines that have been approved by Health Canada (Moderna, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and J...

Ex-PWA/Canadian/Royal Aviation 737-200 at bottom of the Pacific

Looks like the 737-200 that ditched off Honolulu started its airline career in 1975 as C-GDPW.

Fortunately the crew managed to make it to dry land.

Anybody know why Chrono Aviation went with painting their aircraft all black?

I have my own theories, just was curious to know from people who know (preferable to speculation).

Re: Countries better than Canada for flying?

They're still letting the Aussies and a few others fly on their visas in the US. It represents a problem for unemployed US citizen pilots because they are essentially a foreigner taking up what should be job slots for Americans, not unlike the Sunwing TFW thing. I know of one airline that has almos...

Re: WestJet CEO is livid

I understand that aeropolitics is a game and this is part of the act, but I doubt whether Canadian consumers really care. In any case, it isn't like Canadian carriers are the only airlines plying the international traffic market to/from Canada. But as I said, it's a game and so I understand what he ...

Re: Return of the Jump seat??!!

I know a little bit about this topic based on my previous experience. It was UPS that was the driver of this, and heavily supported by the pilot unions that developed the system through existing reservations systems that were at every airline gate. As always, where there is a will there’s a way. Ame...

More than half of world's airline pilots no longer flying - survey

I can’t help but wonder what the Canadian numbers are. (Reuters) - More than half of the world’s airline pilots are no longer flying for a living amid the plunge in demand during the coronavirus pandemic, according to a new survey, and those that are still flying feel less valued by their employers....
