Re: Joining the RCAF at 37 years old

Finding pilots to fly the Polaris, Globemasters, Challengers, and hercs is not a problem. They form a small percentage of the cockpits and there are no shortages of volunteers within the ranks to fly them. We still need bodies though. If we can get someone to the Polaris in half the time it would o...

Re: Joining the RCAF at 37 years old

Yet we'll take a Hungarian pilot who flew under the soviets and allow them to train future fighter pilots at 417 Sqn? Who is more likely to be flexible to doing things the RCAF way? I think the RCAF are now beggars instead of choosers. If we really want to set ourselves up for success we would allow...

Re: Yet Another Australian Migration Thread

Ok, Drop the accent ( which I like ) get fitted for a burka, speak Arabic and say Syria lots and apply for asylum. Im sure you will get fast tracked to citizenship, front of the line for a job , and you can even commit a few crimes and not be concerned about deportation  I was hoping I'd go 10...

Re: Are there any airports in a class B control zone

First off, sorry for the necro post but this seemed like a good place to reply instead of starting my own thread. Question about flying an aircraft without a Mode C transponder. So the CARS (605.35) say: (3) An air traffic control unit may authorize a person to operate an aircraft that is not equipp...

Re: Drone seized by Red Deer RCMP after flying in the path of STARS air ambulance

I'm not sure but wouldn't an altitude cap keep everyone safe?

Cap Drones to 250'

And then you can open up the rules to 3nm from airports

Re: New Flight Duty Time Regs are going to happen?

I've always found that weird ^ Military rules say crew rest is when the last crew members arrives at the hotel and the first one departs the hotel and you need 12 hours of uninterrupted crew rest. For operational reasons that can be reduced to 8 hours of uninterrupted rest which I've always seen int...

Likely because there's a tradeoff between safety and operations, and the level of flight safety compromise to the general public (Who is TC's main concern) between a fatigued 703+ pilot and a 702 pilot is different.

Re: Inadvertent VFR into IMC

Have spent the last few hours reading the TC database with all the fines. I was surprised to see some pretty stupid things happen and relatively low fines. Flying as PIC without a medical $750 fine? Would have thought it'd be higher. Or operating as an AME without a valid license $1000? In my head I...

Re: Accelerated PPL training

Like was already mentioned, the students who get the scholarship have about 80% of the FTGU memorized by that point through needing to write an entrance exam in order to compete for a spot. And because they're 17 year old kids it's the only thing they have going in their lives for that summer. When ...

Re: Inadvertent VFR into IMC

Far more common of a scenario however, would be a VFR pilot who's decided to fly somewhere above a scattered layer, which becomes a broken layer, and then an undercast one. I've always been curious about this. I'm a VFR pilot with pretty good SA on IFR procedures and fly with the approach plates wi...

Re: Negative G Load Question

Can any of the aerobatic guys tell if your allowed to go from either positive to negative or vice versa because of the possible "g LOC"? I though an airshow official explained that was not allowed. the example was an inverted climb with a pull back onto the showline. It's called "push pull" effect ...

Re: congrats to the new flock of cf18a hornet pilots

Australia is not in imminent peril of being invaded, nor interested in projecting their power elsewhere. Australia is far away from it's allies and in a much tenser security climate than we are. With China flexing it's muscles in the SCS and the surrounding countries reacting it's prudent for Austr...

Re: Is it rare for a ppl student to solo with ten hours or l

Current RCAF training (provided under contract by civilian instructors to the TC syllabus) has first solo at 14 hours. At least, if you haven't reached the required standard by then you don't get any extra chances. Aren't the students also doing Aerobatics pre-solo? So not exactly the same syllabus.

Across Canada or in a specific area? A contract will have to be tendered as it's a DND program - likely one contract for each "region" (BC, Prairies, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic). You could call that region and ask for the contract, go on their contracting website and search or submit an access to ...

I've only read the one article posted on this topic, but seems like in this case - it's much clearer what transpired tha in others as people's stories are corroborating. If things went down as he says they did - I definitely think he should pursue legal action against Southwest and if he doesn't wan...
