Re: Airplane stuck in the states

if you fly across airline style , canada will welcome you back, mind you for a 14 day quarantine. I think you best spend minimum time down there. just sayin

I would try to exhaust canadian planes as much as possible first. With our dollar right now planes are heading the other way.

There may be tactical reasons to recover a helo quickly, sometimes they probably practice them. I will also wait for the report. I regret the loss of life, good folks serving the rest of us. The machine has some quirks it appears as well. this place (avcanada) has sure become hostile. It is no where...

Re: Owning and Operating a plane

I still say the cheapest flying most of us will ever do is when we rent.... Find a good school, fly a lot, like 4-5 hrs a week if you can swing it, if you can swing 6-7 hrs a week you will be done in 10 weeks. Too much to do learning to fly, to be learning to maintain and MANAGE the mtce... if the p...

Re: Closing airspace

Last time i landed there it was about 125.00 off hours, but it also had a de icing surcharge (did not need deice in July) and cost 75.00 to open the door at the fbo. that was enough....that was a few years back.

Re: Who's gotten a lay off?

The unions (if they are listening) should be doing a one time," share the flying that exists" among rated pilots. This will keep more pilots " warmed up". Senior types can probably live on one third of their flying.
Complete shutdown is gonna be hard on staff, and planes dont like to sit.

Re: Who here has been ramped by TC?

I witnessed a ramp check, last year. It was the first revenue flight of a new westjet 787!? FA told me they had flown it around training cabin crew etc a few times but it was first paid load! I was waiting to get on. It had been pressed into service with the MAX grounding. TC had asked for the logbo...

Re: Are people in the Airlines as miserable as those here?

Bored. yes you are in an aluminum (or composite) tube, where it is minus 50 odd degree c outside, where the air is so thin it does not support life, doing 500 odd miles per hour, with discs spinning at who knows what rpm, with enough jet fuel onboard to set most of a city on fire... yep boring is go...

Re: Fatal Crash - Gabriola Island - Dec 10, 2019

Well if we had the altimeter setting for naniamo at the time of the crash, we could figure out what the altimeter might have been reading, had it been left at 29.98 on the descent thru 18000 feet, mind you , a pilot would have been reminded a whole bunch of times ( handoffs, descent clearance, appro...

Re: Cherokee Six missing near Kingston?

Cmon Trey. The GFA was horrible, the (rather few available) metars fairly encouraging. this does not happen all that often where they are so widely different.. When the decision to go was made , probably thought they would be there before night, but you know how the time goes getting 7 folks sorted,...

Re: Cherokee Six missing near Kingston?

I will grant the departure weather looked "ok", near YOO and YTZ and YYZ so a somewhat local flight was going to work. I would be interested in the Trenton weather around departure time. The GFA was indicating pretty tough ceilings and vis, for a vfr flight of any distance on that day. It has been m...

Re: New NOTAM website - old site withdrawn

i sort of feel, and think, the new notam method is a "lawyers version" . Not that I dont like lawyers, but its like a core dump of every darn thing that can ever possibly affect a flight with little intelligence applied....giving you the same taf, metar, radar, etc multiple times does nothing to hel...
