Re: Flight Training in Kirkland Lake?
He'd like to buy a 150 or something similar -- cheaper that way, and you learn more.

Flight Training in Kirkland Lake?
Hi, a friend of mine just got a job as a firefighter in Kirkland Lake. He'd like to get a pilot's license once he's settled in. Is there a flight school anywhere near KL; or an independent instructor? If not, is there one in Earlton? No schools are showing up on Foreflight, so I wondered if anyone h...

Re: Availability of Quality Aerobatic Training
Aerobatics was a huge part of my flying life, and still is to some extent. Most of it was self-taught -- I read all the books available in the late 1970s and tried out the basic maneuvers in the Citabria I was flying. Then my father got wind of it and started teaching me a few things (how not to yan...

A Go-Around is not an emergency maneuver -- it prevents one.

Re: Is this the oldest flying aircraft in Canada?
I flew the WACO Taperwing at VWoC for about 35 hours. It was built in 1929.
It's in Wetaskwin now, and doesn't fly, but it could.

Re: Westwind
It's Dryden all over again, without the deaths, but that's pure luck. The GFA showed freezing rain across the area. That means warm air aloft. The aircraft descended through the warm air and landed. The wings were thus above freezing. The METAR showed light snow and -9C. So the snow stuck until the ...

Re: Helmet Recommendations
Yes, cockpit canopy clearance is the critical measurement. Even in the Extra 330 Mike doesn't use a helmet.
But if it's neck movement which is the issue, you might be able to get the Campbell modified by a cut-away at the lower back. You could discuss it with them.

Re: Airshow in Manitoba??
The modern problem with running an airshow is public weather forecasting. If the public forecast is "chance of showers" then people don't come to your show. You get a crowd of 4,000, not 25,000, and you lose money. Forecasters seem very pessimistic, and concerned with liability, these days, and tend...

Re: Helmet Recommendations
I've used a Campbell helmet since 2009. It's wonderful -- one of the nicest things I've ever owned. http://www.campbellaeroclassics.com/id2.html It's light (Kevlar) and looks good (leather cover). It's also fitted to your skull. The passive sound absorption is fine -- I don't use active. Negs: I had...

BTW -- here is a brand-new acquisition of the Collection:
It was previously owned by the Irving family of New Brunswick. (Yes, THAT Irving family.)

The Chipmunk in our hangar is a beauty, but owned by someone else. So, I doubt it. But if you send me a PM I can put you in touch with the owner.

Changes at Vintage Wings of Canada
Hi All, Just to dispel rumours, things have changed at VWoC, but the aircraft will still fly, and events will still take place. It's only the previous charity-entity which has shut down. Good explanation here: http://www.vintagewings.ca/VintageNews/Stories/tabid/116/articleType/ArticleView/articleId...

Re: Snowbirds and CF-18 Demo Team in Ottawa September 20, 20
We had a great event! The rain and strong winds didn't materialize, and we flew warbirds all Saturday except for when the Snowbirds and F-18 flew. Terrific day! And Sunday of course we flew 4 fighters on the wing of the Lancaster over the Parliament buildings. And many passenger sponsor flights spre...
