Re: US pilot - first time to Nova Scotia
1 - How is the radar coverage in the area? If I go VFR, should I expect to be able to get flight following? Should have full coverage as the enroute portion is covered by Moncton center except landing in Margaree when the hills around the airport would effect coverage 2 - Are VFR transitions through...

Re: Flight dispatch no work experience
It is possible but can be difficult. My suggestion to you would be try to get into the company you want to work for at any position and wait for a dispatch position to open. I know at Jazz we are more likely to hire internally for a posted position in dispatch than we are outside. Our last group had...

Re: Airline Emergency Response Plan (ERP) creation
Not to try and put a wrench into your research but those documents are not going to be easy to come by. Our company ERM is for internal use only and I can say with certainty that I would be in touble if I passed along ours to the public. Good luck in your search.

Re: Interpreting radar image
I am no expert but if I were to take a guess it would have to do with the intensity of the precip falling and the strength of what the radar is set to. The radar sensitivity may be set much lower on the YUL radar compared to the YOW radar. Combine that with very light precip and you would not see it...

Re: FLIGHT DISPATCHER TRAINING...???
If you can get your hands on study material in regards to the SARON and SAMRA that would be a great study resource. My best advice is for the weather exam is get your hands on the air command weather manual. It is laid out nicely and is an easier read than some of the other weather material. I am no...

Re: Flight Dispatcher Questions
You may have a hard time getting an interview with a major airline with zero dispatch experience. That is not to say it can't happen but unlikely. You may want to consider applying for a job at a smaller operation to get the experience and then apply at the majors. At Jazz we have hired people right...

Re: Jive?
The talk around SOCC is that the Jive idea was a pawn in negotiations with the labour groups to get on board with new long term contracts. I do know that our group was told(after the fact) that if we had not sign on for a 10 year deal that there would be a layoffs of approx 30-40% in our staff level...

Re: RVR Question
The 10-9D page says if you are certified RVR 600 then you can start at RVR 600. I don't see anywhere on that page or the 10-9A page that make reference to RVR 700 in any form. Where do you see RVR 700?

Re: Getting into the Dispatch world
The mainline and regional carriers definitely like some experience but that is not always the case. Our company has just hired 3 dispatchers out of a college program (that is 3 out of 4). Having seen the quality of student those programs produce it is an easy sell and they usually come well prepared...

The B scale has been blended into the current pay scale for a lot of groups. While technically there is no B scale, all the employees who were around when the B scale existed know that it is still there even though there is no A and B scale on paper.

Re: Jazz Dispatch
Well first off I enjoy working for Jazz. I think it is a great company to work for despite the bad press it gets on here. We are looking at a good solid 10 year contract with Air Canada (as solid as it can get in the airlines) so our future is looking stable. Our dispatch group has a 10 year contact...

Re: Flight Dispatcher
Experience at smaller places that have flight followers or operate a Type B dispatch operation looks good on a resume too. We have a lot of dispatchers at Jazz that have that type of background. Skyplan in YYC is a good place to start aswell (so I have heard). I do know at least 3 people who have co...
