Re: 1000 hours! Where were you or where would you like to be

AH the generation gap and how the times change - for me can't remember and back in the day it was only an event when you passed 10,000 hours - at a thousand hours most were still thinking of going to work in their 180 or even a cub and thinking damn only 2 more years and I might get to fly a Noorduy...

Re: Westjet cover up: Alleged sexual assaults by pilot

Obviously heads should roll. I can't believe a corporation would try and sweep this under the table but having said that maybe the WS approach to trying to sell this "big family" image might shed a little light. The HR department must have some qualified people somewhere in the department which make...

I can highly recommend the OnePlus X
+1 no pun intended

The other neat thing about 0ne Plus phones (I'm on my 3rd one with the X model) They have all the frequency bands including T-Mobile and Wind and did I say reasonably priced

Re: Cell Phone Plans Canada/USA

If you have that $50 tbaytel plan - keep it it's the best in canada especially since you likely have free in plan calling to USA , mine does. For the States I use Roam Mobility which is very cheap(costs nothing to call forward my tbaytel number since I have american long distance from canada) and wh...

I realize that WJ isn't an Ontario employer, but here's what the OHRC says that employers' duties are
Federally regulated provincial laws mean squat. Having said that I'm sure the protocol is there but likely a lot "looser" than any provincial laws. Look at the bull crap at the RCMP

Re: Airline pilots don't know how to fly

they can't even do a proper landing - it amuses me why a lot of people/pilots judge someone's skills by the landings WTF is that all about jeeezus - I'm thinking there is a little more to it than that but I guess when you spend most of your time in a circuit your thinking skills deteriorate or your...

Re: Westjet cover up: Alleged sexual assaults by pilot

To me the answer from the company's point of view is that he should have been suspended with pay until such time the case was resolved, even if it took years. If there were any chance the allegation could be true. A few years ago they had a issue with crew drinking in Montreal and that is not overly...

Re: Air ambulance medics federally regulated

What is the issue here - is it just me or are people over complicating this. Just because the medics are restricted on where they can work there is no reason for them not to be subject to the union. If they are employed by the airline and fall under the scope of that definition supplied to who is an...

Re: Republic Airways Files for Bankruptcy After Pilot Shorta

Unless you have been there through affiliation with ALPA most Canadians have no idea how labour or should I labor relations work south of 49. We sit here happy with reasonable labour laws to protect us while there it's all about the collective agreement, totally with management always trying to end ...

Re: Question for Twin Otters pilots

Obviously more information needed. What do you mean by a small lake and likely a 2 otter is way over kill plus 2 otter does not necessarily mean small lake. A small lake can range from pot hole size to a mile long. Terrain is an issue. Length of flight. Payload required and the list goes on.

Re: Legal or not

To put it simply -- No issue with TC but RC might would have them. Now there is a difference between a contract and a casual. Casual would cover such things as a ferry pilot, maybe some recurrent training for one man operations, being a TC check airman and charging for rides. Having said this it you...

Re: Hiring practices

This was a common practice 40 years ago where pilots would incorporate and then get companies to pay their company and not them. RC tightened up the rules and the above post pretty much explains it. If revenue canada were to find out about it, the resulting audit would stop them in their tracks and ...

This is not ENTIRELY true.
-- well I beg to differ since there is no federal minimum wage. It was removed in 1996 so being a federally regulated industry it is what it is.

is Bob hoover "not very smart" ? (as you say I am) Not at all. I have nothing but the greatest respect and admiration for the man. Having said that his stunt is part of an airshow, sponsored and I assume engines are completely checked before each performance and likely even a motostat done as well....

Re: Unpaid Company Groundschool

From what you are saying your company considers that you are not paid on your time off. Your pay is based on hours or days worked (at 80/ week and working 2 on and 2 off you still don't even qualify for overtime federally) It is your time off and if the company indicates it's optional to do the grou...

Nice to see the thread has no gone from bravado to thinking. Sure engines are shut down for more reasons than failure but at the end of the day to arbitrarily fail them for fun or to intentionally sh1t can an engine for effect is costly and possibly dangerous. Trainers must be trained especially whe...

Jeezasssss - I hope those are actual shut downs and not just fukin around unless of course you have deep pockets to fix the engine damage. Then by all means ---- pull those levers, have at 'er and enjoy. Piston engines are like a woman, should never be abused If I were an owner I would sh1t can anyo...

Re: Comm failure IFR

I think the word archaic has come up. Com failures in this generation has almost gone to the way of the dodo. In this generation if you have a total com failure that likely is the least of your worries because a bigger problem has taken out your radios - all of them -- Your mobile phone might become...
