Re: Orca Airways YYC, Should I apply

I heard a rumor that Jazz have very recently become wary of hiring pilots direct from Orca due to a few not living up to GS expectations. Keep that in mind if your plan is to go to a regional afterwards, you might have a hard time with Orca as your most recent employer. That being said, you'll bag a...

I was paid from the first day of my 703 GS. Sure it was only a week and mostly online, and I did a lot of it at home. But I was still paid.

Re: Up Coming Interview

I was shirt and tie.. no suit jacket. Was told business casual is fine... but theres no such thing as overdressed  Good luck! As I'm sure many pilots applying at Jazz are coming from 703 with low pay, many might not have a suit. I don't think I've worn a full on suit nor had a need for one in...

you mean like this ? http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02467/denzel_2467463a.jpg As funny as this is, yes. Looks much more modern. I don't know many young pilots who love the idea of double breasted suits. Sure it's the classic airline look but lets be real.. the new generation of pilots ...

Re: New uniforms?

Any idea when Airline uniforms are going to move away from double breasted suits? Walking around the airport the other day I couldn't help but notice and feel like pilot style is suck in the 80's. A nice two button jacket with cuff stripes would do great. Along with just a well tailored overall unif...

Re: Wasaya caravan missing

I'm sure lots of us have or still do work in the north and the thing I find the most concerning is the time it took to get to this pilot from the time he was spotted. Our SAR crews are top notch but the lack of resources we have is concerning, why do we have helicopters that can't fly into icing in...

Re: Buffalo Joe temporary shut down?

CID I was saying a northern operator can't make money using new airplanes, I never said he should still use DC-3's. Buying some used ATR's or Dash 8's is probably the way to go where you can still have a modern fleet but you also not paying for brand new equipment. The sad part is with fuel costs s...

Re: Best place to work to enable travelling

Go get a job at Voyageur. Work two months on, and two months off. They pay for your travel to/from one location in your two months off. So for example you could fly to SE Asia after your rotation and stay for a month. Fly home on your own dime and then the company will fly you back to your rotation ...

Re: Wasaya caravan missing

SAR said it looked to be in one piece, no smoke, no fire. However we don't know if perhaps in the landing he could have hit is head and become incapacitated. One would think that if he landed safely that his radios would still work, and he would be able to run the heater to stay warm.. so logic woul...

Sensationalist title. I highly doubt the pilots will be fired. Sounds like they did their job and everyone made it to the ground safely.

Re: Wasaya caravan missing

I can't imagine what it could gave been like to successfully land the plane, possibly hear the SAR aircraft above only to hear them turn around and wait 12 hours and have the cold take your life. Remember everyone, dress warmly and remember that the weather you decide to fly in is the weather SAR wi...

Re: VFR in IMC - Kasper Aviation

Here are a few things to keep in mind when flying VFR in a control zone: There is no minimum reported ceiling for VFR flight in a control zone. It is left up to the pilot to ensure he can maintain at least 500 ft below cloud and legal altitude above ground regardless of the METAR reported ceiling. ...

Re: Ignore any crosswind after the FAF

Yeah, you're right. CARS 602 something states: (j) sufficient radio navigation equipment to permit the pilot, in the event of the failure at any stage of the flight of any item of that equipment, including any associated flight instrument display, (i) to proceed to the destination aerodrome or proc...

So where did the info come about the pilot being safe on a lake if wasaya is stating the condition is unknown? Info like that gives this site a bad rep ... From what I understand all they know is the plane appears to be in one piece on a lake. The condition of the pilot is unknown but I hope they a...

Re: VFR in IMC - Kasper Aviation

Seems like the most obvious point is missing. In a control zone you have to be 500' below cloud and 1 mile horizontal. If you're allowed to fly at 300' you'd need 800'... Unless you request SVFR then clear of cloud is the requirement. Just because NavCanada bases their not letting you in the zone w...

Re: Ignore any crosswind after the FAF

Common misconception that you need an ADF to be IFR certified. So long as you have two independent nav aides, you're good to go. One VOR and a certified GPS is enough. IIRC two independent VORs is also allowed (can anyone confirm this?). The only time it might be an inconvenience is for alternate pl...
