Logging dual time on mutual flights
During flight training we did a number of mutual flights bombing around doing simulated ifr cross country flights. We were told that if we were acting as PM, we couldn't log the hours. I never thought twice about it, but I'm curious if there's a cars reference out there for why that is. If the PF wa...

Re: Logging cruise relief time outside of Canada
You’ve grossly underestimated food costs. A week of groceries in HK will set you back at least $200 already. Unless you’re keen on eating from dai pai dong regularly. Thank you, I appreciate the correction. The figures I wrote down were for groceries per week and clearly I clearly failed to adjust ...

Re: Logging cruise relief time outside of Canada
90k in HK is no better than 37k in Canada. Go ahead and try it... Ok.. here's a comparison based on minimum pay (minimum guarantee, no per diems, etc). Jazz First Officer Pay: Hourly rate (based on 2% pay increase): $39.74/hr Minimum monthly guarantee: 77.5 hrs --> pulled from airline pilot central...

Re: Sault College Aviation Question
Got in with high 60's and low 70's a few years ago. You'll be ok. Are you in from Ontario? What level math and English course did you take (University/College)? Negative, I came from Alberta. I took the equivalents of English and Math 30-1. Can’t remember what the Ontario equivalent is. I would str...

Re: Ramp Wait Times
Thank you for the reply. That’s crazy. Everything I’ve been offered has been more than a year on the ramp with 2 year bonds once on a plane. Maybe I’ll have to be a bit more patient and see if any other opportunities open up.

Ramp Wait Times
I’ve received a couple job offers to start on the ramp and I’m just wondering what you think would be a reasonable wait time on the ramp these days. I’m hoping I can snag a flying job right off the bat, but if luck isn’t on my side, I want to at least make sure I’m not making a choice that will have...

Re: Jazz/encore
I feel like a Encore is the most secure choice. Encore guarantees you a spot at Mainline WS as opposed to just an interview at AC if you went with Jazz. If you chose Encore, you could always jump ship too and apply to mainline AC with the comfort of still having a mainline job guaranteed if you got ...

Re: Cathay Looking For Canadians
I think you mean step one FO pay, because the SO pay starts at 31383, or $64359 CAD annually; if you're paying $20000/month for rent, that doesn't leave much else. The new FO rate is actually a little higher at $48125, which works out to a good salary, but again almost half of that will go to rent....

Re: Cathay Looking For Canadians
Here's the new contract. It's not as good as it used to be, but it's still miles better than anything on offer here, especially if you're sitting at 1000-1500 hours with your ATPL and are single (you only need 750 with the SAMRA/SARON written to apply). I can see myself applying. There are some sket...

Re: New duty regs are out
Well that hurt my head to read.. How is this going to affect the airlines with those highly productive turns to the Caribbean/Central America with early morning report times (swg, tsc, rou, etc)? Will they just depart later in the day to take advantage of the extra duty, or will they have to hire mo...

Re: MRA vs MEA
I think I answered my own question when I typed that out. So basically the MRA will be depicted on the chart if it's below the MOCA because otherwise it'll be included in the MEA, right?

MRA vs MEA
On the LO chart legend, the part about the MRA states: "MRA omitted when the same as MEA." But when would the MEA be different than the MRA on an airway? The MEA is defined as "the published altitude ASL between specified fixes on airways or air routes, which assures acceptable navigational signal c...
