Re: Air Bravo/Thunder Airlines

Places like this still exist. You just have to search a bit to find them, and usually thier names don't really pop up much online as people tend to talk more about places they disliked than places they enjoyed. Hidden gems in a way. If they are honest in saying they keep the ground program small, an...

Re: Canadian Piper PA-28 down in Pennsylvania

One learns far better, preparing, reading --- then going. I wonder about too much dependence being taught -- This was also done. Although after. Dependence, at least there was discouraged. Can't comment on other institutions. I was very happy with the instruction and felt they prepared students ext...

Re: Canadian Piper PA-28 down in Pennsylvania

I thought I read the thread and report fairly well. I missed the part where it said they were PPL through all the discussion about fuel burn and weather radar. My mistake.

Re: Canadian Piper PA-28 down in Pennsylvania

WTF are two student pilots and a trainee instructor doing on a "sort of field trip"? My flight school did trips to the USA regularly with the same system, one instructor and two students. One would sit in the back and the o ther fly there, then switch and the other would fly back. This allowed the ...

Re: ATPL online ground school

CPL course and the INRAT were good IMO. PPL was as well. I found though at the ATPL level things were a bit messy, unorganized and redundant. The standard book study was much more helpful. I had the PPL recommend letter, and had issues with it at TC. Because I was not in the same region, they did no...

No experience with floats, but I managed to clean my boat pretty well with a power washer. But not sure how that would work with floats and lots of rivets etc. As said above ^^

Re: Canadian Piper PA-28 down in Pennsylvania

No, that I agree with and would not have happened at my school. I was just replying to the question regarding the trip in general. I was caught once overnight somewhere unexpectedly and called dispatch. They said don't worry about it just to try to leave early in the morning. I did, and they only ha...

SPOT in the rear baggage compartment? Yeah, that's smart. I keep mine within arms distance at all times.

Those questions are accurate. Study all of those, but don't be too rehearsed.

Suck it up and instruct until you get your 1000 hours, by then you will be in a better position to make a career decision. Phillyfan is right, except for the Phillyfan part...I know he's a closet Sens fan! Yeah, OP.. even if it's not "what you want" sometimes in life you have to make concessions on...

Re: WestJet and London: A mess or a success?

From 15 Aug to 15 Oct using FlightStats data, there were 369 WestJet 767 flights to and from LGW and Canada. Of these flights, 2 were diverted, 9 were cancelled, for a total rate of 3%. That's actually not that bad. 97% dispatch reliability this early in the game on airplanes that old is acceptable.

I had trouble with the letter from PilotTraining.ca because I was not in the region they operate in. So keep that in mind. If you out west or Toronto YMMV with that letter.

That right there is the killer. With low hanging props like the PA31, those props would get trashed flying out of gravel runways.

Re: Career Path

I see posts like the above on this site quite often. I started flying late too, and left a great paying job with career progression to do it. Some people just want to do it as a career. Before flying commercially it was never really a recreational interest for me and in all honesty still isn't. It's...

Re: Citation down North of Kelowna

The amount of icing needed to take down a Citation 6 minutes after take off at that low of an altitude would have to be pretty severe, wouldn't it? Anyone who has flown one have any insight to how much I would need to be built up for that to happen?

Re: Career Path

I know lots of pilots who got started late 20's, myself included. If you can cut working for $25,000/yr for two years after flight school then go for it. After that, if you're creative you can find turbine jobs that pay well in the right seat or left seat light twins.

Re: Citation down North of Kelowna

Could a dual engine flame out turn this aircraft into a -2200ft/min glider? Perhaps dual engine failure, ingestion of birds etc.? Lots of migratory bird activity in Canada recently. Even at altitudes above 5000'.
