Re: Pilot Shortage (not a flight school poster)

Actually, overall drop in FAA pilots licenced to CPL/ATPL would be less than 2%. The real problem is the number of student pilots. Check the stats and see what the numbers look like the last couple of years and compare. Looks to me like the numbers have not been this low since 1955. The total numbe...

Three US Airlines now charging for 1st checked bag

I personally would rather have a higher ticket price then be charged for a checked bag. I wonder how many people feel the same. http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/080612/us_airways_cutbacks.html?.v=8 AP US Airways to cut jobs, fleet; charge for 1st bag Thursday June 12, 7:19 pm ET By Chris Kahn, AP Business Wr...

Re: Lightspeed Zulu comments or complaints?

I am currently using my second Lightspeed Zulu headset. The first worked for around a week and then had a weird issue. Whenever I plugged in the mic cord the headset would cause the com selected to transmit. I tested this issue in several of our aircraft with the same problem. Very similar to having...

FAA charts, airport diagrams, AFD, chart user guide

I sat through a very interesting seminar on VFR charts and publications from NACO yesterday. Below are some free resources from the NACO website that you might find useful if you plan a VFR trip into the U.S. VFR/IFR chart user guides http://www.naco.faa.gov/index.asp?xml=naco/online/aero_guide Appr...

There are FOUR classes of instructor! How bloody STUPID is that??? As I see it, the class 1 and 2 could be lumped together, and the 4 should be dropped altogether! Just restrict the then class 2 a little. No problem. They would act under the supervision of the then class 1. Dont they already do tha...

Just get rid of the AIP ammendments and let private companies copy and publish the CAR's/AIP. Seems like an easy way to remove the fee/tax or force the government to tell me where the hell my money is going. Or force them to come up with some other creative way to say dish over my cash. I know if so...

I am against user fees especially ones that seem to have the fees paying for what exactly (AIP ammendments?). I like to know were every penny of my money goes and with this fee I really have no idea. I am up for a medical here in a couple of weeks so why should I pay this fee again? I would love to ...

Emergency equipment in sparsely settled areas

Perhaps I am out of the loop but when did they change the requirements for flights into sparsely settled areas and emergency equipment?

I came across this change today 602.61 and am surprised on how the reg leaves the contents virtually undefined and ambiguous.
