I recommend that you study more, and you'll find the answer as to whether you need to complete the groundschool to write the exam. Don't try and cheat the system, you'll be doing a disservice to your prospective students.

IMO, the company also has a perception issue to fix regarding upgrades; a lot of people believe it will hinder their chances at getting hired by Air Canada; which is hopefully just a rumor.
