Re: Hiring outlook

How do you figure 5 years to flow to mainline? 600 pilots at Encore. That would involve Encore flowing 120 a year. At the current 50% flow that means WJ would have to hire 240 pilots a year for the next 5 years. I'm not trying to sound pessimistic, but I don't think that type of growth is on the ho...

Re: Hiring outlook

As an Encore pilot I'd say Jazz is the way to go. It seems like it's a lot easier now to get over to AC from there, unless you mess up the interview. Yes, Encore has guaranteed flow and (at the moment anyway) the "one list" for seniority. But please think about how long you'll be spending at Encore...

Re: SWOOP - A New Hires Future

As someone who has been in this industry just over 30 years, you have a very naive understanding of your fellow pilots For the latest Swoop bid, a grand total of 6 of the 550 or so Encore pilots bid on the position. Of those 6, only 1 actually met the company's requirement of having been at Encore ...

Re: Hiring outlook

If you want any sort of life outside of work - I would avoid Encore entirely. The guys that left there have ZERO positive things to say about the place. You will be worked to the max almost all the time, and your duty days will almost always be unnecessarily high in hours (not flight time). Encore’...

Re: Hiring outlook

Anybody have insight as to when WJE will turn the training taps back on? No ground schools for Feb/Mar. Hiring likely to get going again in April. Last year was 10 pilots every 2 weeks or so. Not sure if that is going to stay the new standard. You can pretty much bank on at least 10 people a month....

Re: Wil Jazz hire with instructing time only?

Pretty much anyone can make it a Jazz training program. Is it right? No, but it's reality. What do you mean?! That the reality is the most of the new hires are young and inexperienced. I was responding to someone who said "Just curious how they can prefer people with no commercial experience vs som...

Re: How's morale with uncertainty of the one list?

I assume the pause is for current negotiating and things will pickup. Anyone want to comment how staffing is on the line? Is Encore short and needing fellas soon? Encore will need people this year, but not as much as last year. We still need to figure out a few things post Kaplan award (new mainlin...

I heard Encore is thinking of reducing min PIC time to 150. Can anyone confirm, with an associated implementation timeline?

Thanks!
Yes. Should be updated on the ad already.

Wow! Nice! That’s a great way to talk about your fellow coworkers. I have friends who work, their wives work, they have kids. Re: Upgrade timelines

I think the jazz guys and gals are getting the sh$& end of the stick. If you think Aviation is the only industry getting squeezed by ruthless CEO’s think again. It’s a societal problem .. not just an aviation problem. TC, ATAC etc etc are entities perpetuating the cycle of BS. Alpa is looking out f...

Re: Upgrade timelines

The shit opportunities I'm referring to are the opportunity to make poverty wages and still need to buy pic time so you're even eligible for upgrade. I couldn't care less if it leads to Air Canada, their starting pay sucks too. When I had 500-1000 hours I was making more than a first year Jazz FO a...

Re: Upgrade timelines

Given the recent happenings at both sides, pretty sad options. AC and Jazz with lifestyle and movement is better than Swoop and stagnation with a management team that hates pilots. But that's like picking the smaller bucket of poop. It's still all shit. So with a 1000 hours the pilot will get to be...

I’ve been asked this question a few times from some pilots that I mentor and I keep forgetting to ask the group here. Since I only know the encore scoop on this, I need info on the jazz side. Flight instructor who has about 1000 hours and has to choose between encore and jazz (because these lucky ba...

What does AC look like for west coast fill spots? Lots of growth for YVR planned at AC this year. With your time, look into it. Or mainline WJ. You’ll wait a few years before you can hold YVR base because you’ll be at BOTL. Good luck. Lol. A few years. AC will have you YVR within a year. WJ would b...

I take it now one really knows whats going on with the "one-list"? One list has been agreed to be kept by both WS/WR MEC’s. Just waiting on the company to sign on and make it an LOU. In all communications to the pilot groups the company says they want to keep the one list. They’ve been waiting for ...

I think most of us can agree that today is a good day for Canadian Aviation and a victory for organized labour. Hopefully most of the 26 will go back to the rocks that they crawled out from under and reflect on the damage they nearly inflicted on the rest of the industry. Congrats ALPA. Keep up the...

Re: SWOOP OTS Captains punted from left seat...

With this decision made, I see that Kaplan, in his ruling, refers to a creature known as the Westjet PIlot Seniority List . There is no such creature available in the last negotiated WJPA pilot agreement, nor have I been able to find such a creature available on any WJ internal resource. I'd like t...
