Re: What does Westjet gain

No - they wont add them on a seasonal basis....thats why they are buying more. During the low summer season - they will use them on other routes. There wont be a pilot surplus, at least not a large one. This winter will be a full seasonal fleet with 34 aircraft (16 TUI/Smartwings leases + our fleet...

Re: What does Westjet gain

I’m still very confused on what WestJet pilots get? 80,000 block hrs means nothing when you add 550 pilots. Seems very one sided at this point. Hopefully arbitration will balance things out. Westjet (employing over 14,000) people was a crippled, primarily domestic/trans border carrier coming out of...

Re: WJ Mechanics showing Encore how it's done

I thought you were joking... that's literally her post this afternoon. Separately though... It's the Canada Day July long weekend. Poor scheduling by the pride people. Maybe choose another weekend next time. Pride is replacing Canada Day. I'm sure there are more details, but the Montreal pride para...

Mostly depends on what your days off are. 3/30 and 5/42 tend to be what get people who work a lot of days regardless of the number of duty hours. Why does this matter? If he flies the plane for fun on his days off, it doesn't count as a duty day or as duty time. It does count as flight time. I thin...

Re: Agreement in principle reached.

Past performance is no guarantee of future results. This is the first thing coming to mind when I read your post. Are you going to guarantee that the shortage is just very short term and FO's will benefit of the "average" 82.5? The way I see it, the only way to fix the captain shortage is to pay mo...

Okay. I’ll start : what happened to F50? You may want a specific question….. I’ll rephrase. Flair has been promising a lot and as the biggest ULCC operator in Canada, has given a welcome choice for the population that would prefer to travel from place to place for a reasonable cost. As a consumer, ...

Re: Is WestJet an essential service, where the government can mandate striking pilots back to work?

Or WJ just locks them out like they did the AME's. WJ's only error is they didn't force things in January because pilots don't like the cold and their Christmas visa bills need to be paid. I don't think it would be the same decision for the company to lock its pilots out. I believe it was prudent f...

I doubt that that extra airplanes have to be added, synergies. Yes, Sunwing flew 40 planes during the winter schedule and a certain amount of lift is guaranteed to hotel group, what those details are is private info. Increased AC utilization can cover a lot of the needed extra winter lift. With a c...

Re: Sunwing/Westjet

It's more complicated than that - you need to understand the business model. We are certainly not overstaffed for the winter season. This was a major reason we had TFW's in the winter to keep staffing reasonable....but that creates separate arguments. Are we overstaffed for Summer - yes, however - ...

Re: Will WJ pilots pick up overtime and Encore routes during an Encore strike?

I'm sure our fleet is utilized to its capacity right now with some eastern flying coming back this summer and more service announced out of several bases to the states. As mentioned above the routes solely operated by Encore that do not have WJ jet service could not be filled by WJ pilots. Those ro...

Risk is dependent, how long has the a/c been sitting, was it well maintained. WX is it's own risk, you have to be willing to say it's not happening today whether it's IFR with no suitable alternate in rate or VFR through the passes.

Suppose it goes to arbitration, which im sure it will, then you should expect anything. An arbitrator will not severely disadvantage one group over another. It won't happen, so quit with the BOTL talk. An arbitrator will strive to minimize a negative impact on as many people as possible, and I susp...

I used the DC H10-13X for years on -2,-3 and -6 and Jetstream with no issues.

I had a friend loan me his A20 on a few occasions the Bose has almost no passive NR, so if the active fails you have nothing at least the DC still give you passive reduction. The Bose where more comfortable for a long day.

The WSP got worse too. Went from 20% free money to 10%... EASY NO! Sorry, everyone was demanding that they should take 10% of the WSP and roll it into payrates. That's what happened. Had they left the 10% in it would have done nothing to address our take home pay issue. You can't bait and switch th...

15 percent more for perdiems? Are you kidding? Food is up 50 percent while on the road. Tax free perdiems maximums are set by the federal government. Thanks for your input on the uncertainty surrounding the merger. While i do agree that they will start off running the airline separately, i think that it’s inevitable that all pilots will get merged into one list at some point in the future. If that happens, then it’ll be a free for all when it co...

The latest rumor is YEG Swoop base is closing anyway and being replaced with a YXX base (WTF?). The main reason why upgrades at WJ went from 8 to 10 years are the 150 Swoop CA spots, one contract and we get back to 8 years (depending on ‘the growth story’), with YOS that is a pretty good bump. Is t...
