Re: Foreign controller recruitment

Yes the official program may be closed but they are still actively hiring experienced controllers from other nations. Your best bet would be to contact the Manager IFR Training for the unit that you are interested in.

Re: Toronto IFR courses

It's canceled.....if you are looking on the intranet course schedule it is horrifically out of date.

I stand corrected....

I just reread the briefing that went out and I saw the "no plans" line but does anyone remember the wording of the actual clause....or is there one?

The rumour is false. Hamilton Tower is NOT closing. It's even in the latest Collective Agreement that Navcanada will not close any towers during the life of this contract.

Re: Vancouver 2010 – Is CAATS ready to entering the mountains?

If you are that concerned about CAATS, file something with Transport Canada. I do agree with your point that Navcanada's emphasis does not seem to be about safety. (At least I think that's one of your points) This has become evident lately is numerous aspects of the day to day operation of Air Traff...

Re: ATC/FSS career

I can see it now.... Sitting in front of a board over the horrible loss of separation only weeks earlier. The question is asked, "Just what were you doing at the time of the incident?" I was chatting with my co-worker and having a coffee at the time. Not focused like I guess you're supposed to be So...

Controllers in Toronto do NOT have access to RSC's. That ended about 2-3 months ago.

Re: Sorry.....Jazz in North Bay....???

Just something that may or may not have played a small factor in all this. The controller sitting working JZA on that night would not have had a RSC for CYYB. Starting about a month before they went off the end the controllers no longer had RSC info for any airports in and around that area. FSS only...

I would only imagine that the course would be shortened. The IFR course went from roughly 6 months to 8 or 10 weeks.

Re: FSS Direct Entry

Well now that the precedent has been set if I were a newly qualified FSS or about to enter training I would think that the $1000 should be refunded, conditional to successful training. The Union should be jumping all over this.

Management here in YYZ informed the controllers, that all ab initio training will cease after the current course until sometime in 2010.

Rumour around yyz is that all ab initio training will be suspended until 2010 due to the airspace restructuring project.
