Re: Archie Trammell flies west

We attended his full course, twice. A wealth of information. Even had a beer (or 2) with him after.

He will be missed. RIP Archie

Re: Nature Air / Costa Rica

I am currently in Bocas. I really cannot offer an opinion except to say the 208 is a pretty good aircraft. Since they fly into here, here is a link to the local Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=Nature%20Air

Re: Air Bravo Again

Well; back in about 1987 I was the CP of a newer smaller outfit that was operating a new ME turbine. I had been flying it myself in a two crew environment. We were very busy and decided to hire another Captain. I ended up hiring an individual who was you young but had the qualifications necessary to...

Re: Missing airplane on flight from Penticton to Edmonton

Not to thread drift too much... I see a lot of conversation with respect to the SPOT. It is a great piece of equipment. If you are thinking of buying one though, also take a look at the Garmin InReach. It has Global coverage (SPOT does not), tracks the same as the Spot, can send "canned messages" li...

Re: Strange Restrictions

Stretching my memory here but I think he was deemed color blind. So, he must have a 2 way radio as he cannot "see" the red or green lights from the tower. Night flying restricted for the same reason (nav lights) so, not sure why he would have "had" a night rating unless he became color blind later.

Re: Researching grandfather's - RAF / RCAF - how/where

It is strange that many veterans do not talk about it at all. They never bring it up. I know my dad did flight training in Manitoba I think, and moved on to Harvard's. Never did talk about it. He never went overseas but instead became a Bombing Instructor. He has happy and that I learned to fly and ...

We use Mark Thibert. Easy going and will usually "fit you in". (Col. or Major in Air Force Reserve I believe) I have used him enough that I email from out-of-country and he gets me in as soon as I arrive in T Bay. He has always been great. And....if you need some Plastic Surgery; he does that too! Bob

Actually, Thunder lost 2 Captains to Encore this spring. One was direct hired to Captain and the other was being fast tracked. Both decided to return to Thunder.

I have not been through the Wx. Command manual in years but this looks excellent. Thanks for sharing! Anyone wanting to improve themselves and/or will be writing soon, this would be a good read.

Re: Mitsubishi MU-2 operators in Canada?

Type rating is required as it falls into the "High performance" category. It IS a great aircraft to fly. My favorite but I am probably biased. I am up doing some flying this summer to help out (and visit the Grandkids) but heading back to the boat in a few weeks. Yes, pilots are needed. (especially ...

Re: The solution to pilot shortage?

Excellent video. I took the time to watch the whole thing. Glad retirement is here. Interesting listening to the analogy with respect to automated cars: "they don't need to be perfect, just better than humans". Speaks volumes. And yes, I think that is the way it is (needs) going to go. Look at Air F...

Should not be a big worry. Not sure what hoops you will have to jump through or how long. We have a guy here with a pacemaker and has had it for years.

Good luck.

Fresh out of my Private Pilot License at Voyageur Airways in 1977; I took off for the Florida Cays in one of Max's Cherokee 140's to build time for my commercial. Brought my wife...ok, that was 3 wives ago.... Still owned by Bradley's back then. Anyhow, it was a hoot. Heading there with 55 hours TT ...

Find any washed up lobsters? Barbuda used to have a little islander type airstrip to land and buy lobsters...sorry for the thread drift...great memories of that place Still does have the strip. Some one retracted the gear on a fixed-gear Warrior on it 2 days ago. Landed short in a x-wind.... Lobste...

That thought had crossed my mind too.

I find stuff from ALL over washed up here including satellite buoys from Canada's east coast. They would have to had cross the ocean twice to make it here....

Any Idea if this is from an aircraft?

Found a couple of pieces of honeycomb aluminum hiking the East Coast of Barbuda. This one is about 2" thick and has compound curves. Not part of a boat, this would fall apart in saltwater I think.

Found a ADF antenna washed up as well, but not related.

Any thoughts as to origin?

Re: Air Bravo/Thunder Airlines

Just saw this post, had to raise a glass to Bob M. I never worked for him but always had a fondness for how he treated people; it gave me hope when I was a low timer that not all operators were scuzbuckets and that a little hardwork would soon be rewarded.I hope he's on a sailboat somewhere loving ...
