Passing of John Benum

I think it's important to acknowledge the passing of one of our own, a gentleman who left his mark on many of us in his role as a pilot, instructor, supervisor and friend. John Benum passed away unexpectedly this week at his home in Vancouver, he was 57 years old. I hope it's ok that I say that diab...

Re: Air Canada and MPIC

Your numbers are out of date, 4.5% of ATPL holders are female - from the TC website......Females are more likely to have post-secondary university, females have far fewer opportunities in the military, (we couldn't even get in to the airforce until long after I started flying...) and females are far...

Re: Federal Court Judicial Review Hearing Completed

Raymond, I appreciate the way you have kept the discussion on track despite the repeated attacks to your character and intent. Thank you for (mostly) keeping the discussion civil and informative. I have a question: Many of the posts against the Fly Til U Die group see the end-loaded Collective Agree...

Re: June eqpt bid - no hiring.

Not a chance it's for new hires, it's for reintegrating the 150+ Age 60 Complainants. If they've been gone for more than 24 months they would require Operations and Aircraft re-qualification programs including a full or modified ground school depending on the length of absence.

Re: Too tired for take-off (Globe & Mail)

Thanks to the Globe and Mr. Thanh for trying to put a recognizable face to the issue of fatigue in aviation. The example of the Jazz crew may be a bit of a stretch for some here, but nevertheless reality is that everyone with an ounce of sense knows we have a problem, be it young folks working obsce...

Re: look forward to work?

33 years flying for a living - do I look forward to going to work? Most days I wish I could stay home. But, there are still a few unbelievable moments that seem to make the next trip a little easier - skirting thunderstorms that light up like Armageddon on a black night, sunrise on a cold winter mor...

First job, Navajo Captain - 1978. $30/hr, minimum 3 hours/day and all expenses paid. Took a 50% paycut to join Air Canada, but looking back, would have to say it was worth it-:)

Severe Icing Decisions

I've waited a few weeks before posting this, because I didn't want to accidently identify any of the pilots or operators involved. I keep playing over the event in my mind, and just can't let it go, I personally was horrified at the lack of airmanship displayed, and I believe that our community came...

You guys are *&$ng nuts! There are 8, count 'em 8, new-hire pilots on course representing a spectrum of talent, ages and backgrounds. As usual, one token female made it, but I note that she has far more experience than any of her colleagues, (ex-airforce, bilingual and current Boeing captain) yup, u...
