Re: Best guess when recalls could happen

AC has planned its pilot staffing based on anticipated summer 2022 flying levels (fairly optimistic). The time between now and then will be spent getting pilots qualified in the seat and type for next summer which is in and of itself a massive undertaking, particularly with current depressed flying...

Re: Best guess when recalls could happen

Last one will not be back before Q1 2023. Only thing that might change that is if AC goes on a huge hiring spree in 2022 (unlikely). No doubt that some of the 600+ still on layoff will not come back having found better opportunities. What's your best estimate these days for AC, rudder? I have been ...

Re: CDC release study on masks during covid. Efficacy is 0.5-1.9 percent.

A lot of incorrect conclusions are being drawn here. For example: 22514/37500000= .06% 22514=COVID deaths in Canada in 2020 AND 2021 (this includes deaths not directly caused by COVID, as per CDC guidance on recording deaths) 37500000=Population of Canada 1.55% of Canadians are fully vaccinated (Goo...

Re: COVID has exposed flaws in industry- the pandemic is not the cause of the flaws. - Prof. Moshe Lander

I'm not sure what Mr. Lander's argument is here. What company would not struggle when government-imposed restrictions have led to a 90% drop in revenue? The idea that increased competition would lead to a more healthy market isn't supported by what's occurring globally. All airlines have been affect...

I flew with a number of pilots from Skycare. I'd avoid it, if possible.

Re: Jazz APP aviation pathway program

YJL, no one will be able to give you the answer you're looking for with any certainty. One thing to note is that with this slow-down, experience levels will increase throughout the industry. Pilots who would've otherwise soon left their 703/704 with 1500hrs to go to Jazz will now be applying with 25...

Re: Why Can’t All Airlines Continue CEWS?

I'm not sure what the legality of this would be, but after doing some back-of-the-envelope calculations, it appears that if AC were to instead have us pay out- of-pocket for our pension and benefits, we'd still make more on CEWS than we would on CERB (without accounting for the optional out-of-pocke...

Re: On furlough: Now what?

Thanks for the replies! It's great getting such constructive input on what to do in this scenario. While I do hope this will be brief, it increasingly appears like it might be a bit longer of a wait than what was originally anticipated, so using this time as productively as possible is certainly my ...

On furlough: Now what?

I was recently furloughed from one of the major airlines as a mid-twenty year old pilot, early in my career. While I do presently hold a BSc, during my time on furlough I'd to pursue further education toward a Master's degree, to improve my marketability outside of aviation if another severe downtur...

Re: North Wright Airways 2019/2020

The only people doing rotational schedules are direct-entry captains. Everyone else is on a 50 weeks on / 2 weeks off schedule. To answer your questions: The last I heard, it was only a few months on the ramp before being trained on the 206/207. I would assume at least six months before being traine...

Any word when the one-list issue will be set in stone?

If it continues as two separate lists, will this issue be perpetually hanging over the heads of those hired as OTS will every contract negotiated?

As BPF alluded to, the only times I've really scared myself taking risky decisions was scudrunning VFR.

Re: Jazz or CargoJet?

400 is the norm yes. At the moment some captains may be doing 600 due to shortage. As for social life, good luck on that. Otherwise in your 20s is the best time. It's not a bad job, pairings are fairly relaxed, weekends generally off somewhere, so flight days only about 8 days a month. Aircraft are...

Re: Jazz or CargoJet?

Upgrade requirements will not have changed from the above last CBA. Once you have met this upgrade will be in order of seniority, skill and performance. Usually ascertained from results from last Sims and how you would fair in a leadership role. Needless to say I don't think you would be looking at...

Re: Jazz or CargoJet?

I know a pilot from CJ and as per him morale is good, upgrade time is avg 2 years to left seat, and they are hiring with 1500tt 704 experience. Thanks for the info - it's very much appreciated. I'm surprised to hear the competitive requirements are at that level! Are those hired with 1500tt/704 onl...

Re: Jazz or CargoJet?

Hello, I'm hoping to get some more information on the Cargojet B767 FO ad. Feel free to pm, if needed. - What is a typical schedule for a junior F/O? - How is the overall morale at the company? - Is there much movement? - What is the expected upgrade times? - How insulated is the company from a mark...
