Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Increased Purchase Price to $18 per Share

Not only that, the Transat pilots are basically snapshotted in their seats while laid off and AC is going to run a downbid and keep working. A lot of guys are going to loose their captaincies for a time and that will really hurt our position when it comes to a ‘no bump/flush’ situation.

Re: Layoffs

On the one hand 55 hour blocks are pretty close to what the DB pension plan guys would be drawing per month after income splitting and other tax mitigation. All these pensions will land between $9500-$12000 per month. On the other I have always been suspicious of the guys you fly with who say ‘oh I’...

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Increased Purchase Price to $18 per Share

I have read the corporate disclosures. So, I know what has been divulged externally. And yes, significant measures have been taken. This thread was interrupted by a comment contrasting SWG to TS. That was the point of the reply. SWG has no lifeboat. Where SWG ends up is exactly where TRZ would end ...

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Increased Purchase Price to $18 per Share

I think a painful merger is all but certain now for the reasons listed above.
Transat brings nothing to the table. No forward bookings, all that ‘cash’ they like to tell you about will be all burned through before this deal is ever approved.

Re: Layoffs

Not that I agree with ripplerock but there are FAs on yammer asking where all the other layoffs are and when the pilots will feel the pain. That attitude absolutely exists at the ground level.

Re: Who's gotten a lay off?

It’s not ‘sky’s flying’.
It belongs to whoever AC decides should do it. I suspect the company is coming to ACPA with some pretty big requests right now and ACPA will be trying to save as many ACPA jobs as possible.

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Increased Purchase Price to $18 per Share

You guys all realize that ACboi and Habslover are clearly trolls right? Neither likely works for AC or Transat?
ACboi isn’t even trolling the point. No AC pilot is saying we are better because we were hired at AC.
We are saying we will vigorously defend our own careers.

I’m sorry to tell you that 98% of your good friends coworkers (and likely him) share this board’s sentiment about protecting our own jobs and livelihoods first and foremost. No one wants anyone to have a bad career but we are not willing to sacrifice our own well being for the Transat pilots. If the...

Re: Grab a seat. The music is stopping

I disagree, low cost carriers are the ones who are least impacted by events like this as people still want to travel but don't want to spend much money so book on the low cost carriers instead. Your right, that’s how canjet 1, roots, greyhound, jetsgo, Canada 3000, ect ect ect were able to weather ...

Altiplano, just gonna come out here and say what everyone else is thinking. You're not nearly as smart as you think you are. I've never seen anyone who thinks they know so much about absolutely everything. And your repeated quotes to tell us not to take it personally is enough. It is personal. Do y...

Re: Grab a seat. The music is stopping

I can also see Flair and Swoop having a hard time because of this... with their prices they need excellent load-factors, and that's not going to happen if people need to save their pennies to pay off debt incurred by this whole shit-show. I disagree, low cost carriers are the ones who are least imp...

Re: Why does everyone want to work at Air Canada?

Onex did not infuse 5 billion into Westjet. They purchased the shares for 5B. If history is any indicator this private equity firm will begin wringing all those dollars back out of the company and loading up the WJ balance sheet with the costs of purchase.

It makes sense. All 6th Freedom stuff. Want to fly Seattle to JFK? Book on AC connect through YYZ. The big US 3 are right to be pissed. AC is also feeding US travellers through YYZ and YUL to Europe and through YVR to Asia. Problem is AC needs to serve a ton of US cities. Delta wants to feed it's i...

Re: pc-12 FO or Encore interview

The PC12 gig is a sure thing, Encore can PFO you and now you got nothing. I would say stick with the Pilatus gig, learn 2-crew SOPs and turbine ops and then if you still want the airlines, go for it (after your bond is up ofcourse) Just my opinion. This is bad advice. While I’m not a fan of the wor...

I have gouge for my aircraft. If I don’t see 50 kts with a good decel by the 3 board, I execute a go around, giving me 3,000 ft to get airborne. I feel that once the aircraft touches the ground, crews are sometime mentally committed to landing. There is always a go around option if you know your ai...

Once the reversers are deployed you are committed to landing in most jets.
You can’t just roll it into a touch and go.

Exactly, no private equity firm in the history of capitalism has let an acquisition sit on “billions of liquid cash”
That money’s gone homey, it’s just as likely Onex rips WJ down to the studs and then relists a lean mean flying machine as anything else.

Future so bright now that even wj managements family members have resumes at AC..... Of course management is going to be looking for jobs... they're the ones who have a target on their back. This is something that no one has been able to back up: why would Onex sell Encore, and who would buy it? Q400s aren't in demand at all, let alone used ones, and no one is going to pick up a CPA involving a regional airline that is hemorrhaging pilots so fast that it can't meet the requirements of ...

An observation from this old codger. Why do chaps make comments on Air Canada’s salary structure when they (a) do not work at that airline (b) explicitly imply they have no desire to do so. Insecurity, I assume. Using pay and schedule as an example, a corporate pilot should STFU about how good they...
