Re: Traffic you cant explain

Many years back while driving in the city of Calgary on 16th Ave westbound in the community of Montgomery heading out of the city just before the Bow River. It was winter and the sun was setting below the hills to my left and the sky was clear with unlimited visibility. The sun was below the hills ...

Re: Bonds

Most of them are legal yes. With a bond, you usually don't pay for on the job training. You just owe the employer money if you leave within a specified time period, typically 1-3 years. This. From a legal point of view it has nothing to do with the training. Having said that, people have argued the...

Thanks photofly! Very interesting to read the case analysis on this. It is relatively recent, too.

Bonds

Can someone chime in on the actual legality of bonds? Without getting into subpart a. b. c. etc. etc. of the Canadian labour code, I swear I've seen something to the effect of "any on-the-job training must be provided by the employer". I've worked many jobs, and never had to pay for my training... I...

Re: past use of marijuana and drugs

Hey guys, sorry to revive an older thread, just looking for an update on the AC medical, including polygraph, spinal tap and/or waterboarding? I'm pretty good in the water so I think I could last the whole duration on the board.

Best of luck OP!

I don't like CNN, personally I detest their not-so-hidden agenda, but first thing that popped up on my Google search...

They're either great at Google adwords, or something is really afoot...

Re: Are we entering another recession?

Recessions are based on GDP not the stock market although they do tend to go hand in hand. I have a concern that the next recession will be far far worse for Canada than 2008 for the following reasons; A) oil recovered really quickly and Alberta helped power Canada through the first few years B) th...

Are we entering another recession?

Watching the news this AM, the stock market has had its worst quarter since 2008. Are we looking at entering a similar recession?

Any input would be appreciated... Will the good times we are experiencing in aviation come grinding to a halt?

Re: Training cost(s) and taxes

Thanks for the response Photofly. It kind of makes sense to me.

Is it a tax credit only on the taxes i paid for training? If so the monetary amount I see as a return come tax season (relatively) won't be that much... Will it?

I'm not a finance guy by any stretch here, lol

Training cost(s) and taxes

Good morning fellow aviators, Quick question re: taxes and flight training costs. Can someone explain to me what the (TL118 or whatever form it's called) actually does to our income tax assessment? For example, does it knock down your taxable income like an RRSP investment, or is it more like a tax ...

For so many comments above to "just pay the fee", or "no one cares", or "or don't pay the fee, it's your life", most here still seems somewhat invested in knowing the answer to this question. Judging by the full gamete of answers, I'm not sure anyone knows for certain. I know it did NOT sit well wit...

Re: Mount Royal or Sault College?

"I currently have my Student License and going for my PPL btw if that means anything." if you're going to have your PPL completed, that's like 25%-30% of your training at a private FTU completed right there. You could do your CPL timebuilding, flight test, then onto MIFR from there... to be complete...

Re: Mount Royal or Sault College?

This purely second -- well, probably third hand information, but I have heard things are NOT the way they used to be at Sault College. Due to lack of instructors and other delays, students are not completing their training into well into their fourth year (so I hear), which is after their three-year...

"so what exactly gets processed?" The money out of your bank ............... The general concensus seems to agree with this quote, lol. We pay the doc handsomely for 15 mins of his time, a stamp and I'm assuming a bit of work. But a clerk at transport charges me $55 to " process" my medical. Just a...

$55 charge, for processing medical?!

Hi All, just received an invoice in the mail for $55 from Transport. Apparently this the cost of processing my medical onto my license. Does everyone receive this bill? Hi all, hope you're having a great week. Is there enough instructors to fill the demand, or are they hurting for ins...
