Re: Practicing with Twizzles

I remember a Twizzler being a timed turn with a rate of climb. The goal being to initiate the turn and the climb, while starting your timing, and roll out of the turn at the altitude. You'd be given a target altitude, and a target heading, and you'd have to work out the rate of climb / rate of turn ...

Re: "Unrestricted Visual" vs "Visual"

Certain airports (YWG for instance) list restrictions in the CAP on speed / where to join final / altitude when performing a visual approach. "Unrestricted visual" would, in theory, waive those restrictions.

Re: Preventing Double Flameouts

I am a bit puzzled as to what happened with the Dornier. I would assume that it was quite cold outside and just blowing snow. Typically, it is chunks of ice that cause this problem which usually is not something an aircraft has accumulated in the -30 degree world. And with engines running on the gr...

Re: Weather Radar Tilt Methods

From what I remember from THE weather radar video (the one with afore mentioned good ole boy from Texas): Paint your AGL height in miles. Raise by half the beam width. This is the "Parked Position" where you leave your radar for most ops. It generally results in ground returns starting around 30nm o...

Re: Use the Autofeather

First there is no provision for propeller aircraft to have reduced power T/O's having said that 704/703 there is no requirement for runway analysis and obstruction other than what is dictated in the CAP. The pilot under VFR has little or no performance restrictions and self analysis of T/O path etc...

Metro 3's STBY AI is vacuum powered as far as I remember. The G950 equipped aircraft could be different.

Re: Question about Morningstar Routes

A question I've always had, sort of on topic, is why the Morningstar C208s don't conduct RNAV approaches in places like YSB and YYB.

Re: New drone rules for Canada...

Pretty easy and cheap, I'd say. I'm not super thrilled about having to keep a journey log and tech records for each model. There's some other unnecessary fluff in there too, IMO. It would have been nice to see the weight exemption being a little higher (I think 1 kilogram would still be fair) and m...

I'm curious why the approach to 27 isn't a straight in... Possibly because of the trees?

If they were on a ferry permit, gear down, because of a hydraulic issue, they could possibly have had no nose wheel steering whatsoever (other than castering).

Re: Parking Brake on the Runway

I did this once in YTS when I had to wait 15 mins for a clearance (Traffic landing on the other runway). Departed, realized after takeoff the parking brake didn't release completely, landed at our destination with the parking brake engaged on one side.
So yeah, no parking brake on the runway!

Re: TCAS RA between two DH8 at Sudbury

I watched this happen as I drove to the hotel from the airport with my FO. Really, REALLY scary to watch. Interestingly, the article says the Jazz Dash followed the TCAS RA. I saw it perform a collision avoidance turn to the right. Since seeing it happen, I've been looking for it in the CADORs. So f...

Re: If you can only fly one turbo prop for the rest of your life...

Bearskin needs a few of these. "Let the Bear take you there"! Tu-144 (never flown but looks like a helluva lot of fun) Concordeski? Definitely sounds like fun, but misses the turboprop checkbox by a little. I was thinking more along the lines of the Tu-95 https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commo...

Looks like the VFR weather minimum rules still talk about distances from clouds.
