Re: ipc

That's not part of a standard IPC according to the document linked above. Might be a school thing. See advisory circular 401-004, section 4, 2a (i and ii) also 6.3 flight activities 4a i and ii. Both indicate requirement for unusual attitude recovery and this is consistent with all of the examiners...

I second what altiplano said; you need one. Even if your mystery friend didn’t, those days are long over now.

Congrats on becoming the sole carrier again. I remember hearing rumours about the E175s a long time ago. Who knew it’d find a way to happen.

Yes. Those before you suffered, so you should also. God forbid we work in an industry where those before us work to improve things. That just wouldn't be fair. This industry is not unique in having poor early prospects for fresh grads, many career paths have similar early years. You’re welcome to s...

Re: Shock Cooling a myth?

What is the purported damage to cylinders from rapid cooling? FTU airplanes go from full power to idle and back to full power repeatedly, many flights per day. There's no great prevalence of cooling-related issues that I know of. Because most FTUs don’t use airplanes where it matters quite so much....

Re: Flight Instructor Rating

The point I am making is that there's no point doing an instructor rating unless you have a job at an FTU lined up. I don't know how I can make it more clearly. Let me give it one more go. Photofly, maybe your advice works where you are, but where I have taught, there’s no such thing as lining up a...

Re: Flight Instructor Rating

What are you going to do after you get the rating? As a Class IV instructor, you're pretty much useless: you can't do anything on your own, you have to be supervised by and work for a Flight Training Unit. Is that your plan? You don't have to discuss it here, but you should know what it is. Dude.. ...

My experience has been different than yours I suppose. I don’t entirely agree, but I do understand where you’re coming from. Agree to disagree as they say.

Re: Should have asked for the option...

Might be time for a chat with your PI if that’s the culture where you are. Unless you’re exaggerating. The FTUs I’ve been at in the past, we always had really productive relationships with TC.

You didn’t pick a fight you shouldn’t have did you?

Re: Should have asked for the option...

Depends what unit it is, but I can think of a few where it most certainly would be. I know what you’re getting at regarding CADORS and flight schools. But FTUs are also judged by what they instill in their students. Teaching students to think of ATC as the big bad CADORS issuing boogeyman and teachi...

Re: Should have asked for the option...

@photofly Yes, and long enough to know that if you aren’t the pic in that situation, you don’t decide what sort of communication is necessary. The pan pan I made reference to is for the situation of the popped open door in flight. Sometimes that’s a big deal to people. A CADORS is likely in the op s...

Re: Should have asked for the option...

If you really want to incur the wrath of an ATCO, make them fill out paperwork. Especially needless paperwork. A pan pan call would do it, for sure. That’s a dangerous assertion. Useless and garbage remarks like this are why some people, especially students or inexperienced pilots are afraid to dec...

1. Is my experience common? (Falling out of love during training) 2. Is my outlook accurate? (are WAWCON getting worse? Are there no low level jobs for the next 5-6 years?) 3. How many CPL's never get a flying job? I can only offer you my opinion based on my own experience but... What you will want...

Usually (at crew's discretion), no headset above 10 000' in good radio reception areas. There is no hot mic intercom in the 767s (as far as I have seen). You can use pretty much whatever you want. If you have over-ears headset, you usually have one ear out on your partner's side for cockpit communi...

Re: Flight school and instructor job status

Hi, I'm planning to start my flight training next year to pursue my dream which is to be a professional pilot. I saw many threads here saying the airline pilot job market is almost frozen because of COVID19. On the other hand, there are some threads saying that flight schools in Canada are relative...

Hey there, I am interested in converting my license too, I have both the SAMRA and SARON complete, but not the hours for the license. Re: Lesson Plans

Does anyone have any templates (individual or whole) for the instructor rating? I'm not sure what all is required of a candidate to have prepared. Pre-flight brief plans, air lesson plans, post flight, etc. A template for 1 lesson start to finish would be greatly appreciated. All of this is covered...
