Re: Northern clothing and footwear

If I am going to be doing ski work and flying science types (Beakers) around I wear these: http://www.actoncanada.ca/fr/produit/a4440-13 I've gotten 30 years out of one pair. Just now I'm at 68 South. In another 2 weeks I'll be at 68 North. I've never found them to be not warm enough. When I'm not f...

Re: Pilot - MX cooperation

First, you might track down the idiot who told you not to trust engineers, and let them know that they were seriously misinformed. Then you might get your engineer to show you what they look for in a daily inspection. Following that, take the Colonel's advice. But get an engineer to show you how to ...

Nope I was just after, about the same time as driving rain.
I did start out in a cloth and wood aircraft though.

Re: Importance, Threadjacking and Decorum

I'm happy as hell to edit boneheaded, malicious, or witless digressions from topics if someone sends me a note about it.

That having been said, I have a day job. Lemme know and I can get onto things, otherwise if I don't get the time in a day to read a thread...

Re: Logbook Question

That aside, 30 years down the road, a name an a pic pasted into the book might be fun to look at. Digital pictures are nice, but when you get voted into the Canadian Aviation Hall of Fame, they won't be including your IPod in the display;)

Re: Your Opinion on Instructor Rating at Moncton Flight Coll

Mine worked out there. 34 years ago. Graham is a thoroughly experienced instructor, well versed in the standards for the rating, as well as the ones you will subsequently teach. There is a thread regarding renewing an instructor rating. The study details outlined have a clear implication for you and...

Re: Dress appropriately.

Finally, Winnipeg is number one in something. Normally Cat and I are pretty much in sync. But in my little corner of the industry, someone who prefers being a fashion statement over being warm is pretty much unemployable. If I had a commercial student who couldn't figure it out, I'd be okay with lea...

Re: Right iPad app to navigate the MacKenzie River

Starting from Arctic Red, the Delta starts into a million channels. Annually we spend perhaps 30 hours searching for people who get stuck in silted channels. The Coast Guard in Inuvik would be worth a call in June for updated info. Inuvik MCTS Centre: (May 15 to October 31 only) Mailing Address: Fis...

Re: Yukon territory advice?

The drive to Yellowknife isn't as esthetically pleasing, but a stop in high level, vermillion, hay river might pay off better. Yk is Carhartts Country. What you do is more important than how you look doing it. Whitehorse is beautiful, but the destinations from there are usually something that cause ...

Re: Yellowknife

Companies up north starve in the winter and fatten up in the summer. It's as if someone walks to the edge of the ramp on the start of Victoria Day Weekend, fires a flare pistol, and every airplane in the fleet flashes up and gets airborne.
