Re: VIDEO: Vintage Grumman TBM Avenger Ditches Off the Beach, Florida, 17 Apr 2021

The airplane will need to be completely disassembled and very promptly flushed with lots fresh water. Everything should then be covered in something like ACF-50 or equivalent corrosion inhibitor. All of the avionics are probably junk. The prop got bent, but is likely repairable. They can be straight...

Re: Old prop value

Very nice looking item! "Erco" would later go on to produce the Ercoupe. As the logo states, blades are made of "Compreg" (compressed, impregnated) wood. The metal hub was made by Hamilton Standard, or was at least their design. Erco made the blades and assembled the units. Based on the dimension "9...

Re: Vintage Propeller Question

First one is American. Not that old. You can tell that by the direction of rotation and the six bolt pattern. I suspect It probably got struck and that's why the tips were cut off. The second is made by Laidlaw. Left hand rotation and eight bolt pattern. Fits on a Gipsy Major, which would power a Ti...

Re: WW2 'Tallboy' explosion

what's the connection with the Dambusters? The Tallboy and Grand Slam, along with the bouncing bomb used in the dams raid know as an "Upkeep" were all designed by Barnes Wallis. He also designed and developed the delivery systems for all of the above. As also stated, they were all delivered by 617 ...

Re: VIDEO: CRASH of Cessna 210 In the Mountains of Utah

I kinda thought that beach looked like a pretty good option. Gear up or down. I think the biggest take away from a video like this is to remember something Bob Hoover said. You have to fly the airplane, as far in to the crash as you can. Stalling and spinning, even at less than a hundred feet, is ne...

Re: Mental Health 2. Processing an accident

I respect you having the wherewithal to post this here. I agree with the statement that this was an accident. The chances of catching a cracked fork during a walk around are slim at best. People tell you not to beat yourself up, but one thing is for sure. No one can tell you how to feel. We just hav...

I am interested in purchasing Tiger Moth propellers, if they are in airworthy condition.

They fit on the front of my Tiger Moth :))

Re: Snowbird crash in CYKA

I am just gutted to hear news like this. My sincerest condolences to the team and their families. So tragic. I saw all of these team members and spoke to several of them when they transited through YYZ. I watched the videos. I too heard the "pop" basically as the two ship crossed the airfield bounda...

Re: Closing airspace

Used to fly into YYZ quite regularly in 150’s, 172’s to pick up parts from Leaven’s Brothers who, if I recall correctly, were on the north side of Derry Road. Segments of old runway 10-28 are still in use as taxiways G and P and AG. I often point out to people who are new to YYZ that "G" taxiway us...

I don’t think that’s right...every chart I’m looking at says 122.275 and 122.075 and I’ve never been on 122.75 there.
My mistake. Thanks for the correction.

Re: Closing airspace

A few days ago I saw a C-150, a Husky on amphibs and a Cherokee all do low passes down the runway at YYZ.
Gives you an idea of how busy the airspace isn't.

Re: Guard your plane at the airshow

I've taken my Tiger Moth to a fair number of fly ins and the like. I like to give interested people the opportunity to check it out up close. I'm even OK if they want to touch, with suitable respect. (If it were me, I'd have the decency to ask first) There in lies the rub. The general public has no ...
