Re: Commuting from Sunshine Coast/Bowen Island/ Squamish to YVR
I'm an AME who commutes from Sechelt. Five on, five off 12 hour shifts so I stay in town at a crash pad for my five on. Highly recommended area to live in. Biggest drawback is the ferry as I can't make reservations with any confidence since I just can't walk away from work if the sh_ts hitting the f...

Re: Working on a C registered aircraft in the states
It's interesting that you guys on the airline side of things bring a letter with you. Have you had issues with or without that? Do you try to use other airlines down there for maintenance support and do they have a MIP (TCCA supplement)? Having the documentation definitely helps going through custo...

Re: Working on a C registered aircraft in the states
What kind of an operation are we talking about here. We (a large regional airline) send guys down south on rescue trips on a regular basis. We supply them with a generic letter containing the appropriate language to present to US customs (partial excerpt) - "According to 9FAM 41.31 N7.2 (copy attach...

Re: Pearson Drug bust, 2 Sunwing employees arrested.
sounds like the raic pass process has a few holes in it. RAIC program has holes you say? Isn't Canadian Aviation Security air tight!?!?! :| Passing through the ramp checkpoint charlie in YVR you get randomized and hauled out for secondary screening half the time. The vehicle gets searched as well.....

Re: Any AMEs working for voyeguer overseas?
Not me but a good friend has been with them for over 10 years. He does 3 months in, 3 months out, Voyageur pays the flights. The money isn't really that great unless you give up your Canadian residency which takes a while out of country, and keep your whole paycheck tax free. The accommodations are ...

Re: WestJet and Sunwing ground collision - YYZ
Oh the irony. The Sunwing ground handlers were Swissport, the union that was on strike for months and disrupted YYZ vehicle traffic when the strike wasn't going their way, all the while claiming the temporary workers hired in their place weren't the, ahem, professionals they were and all sorts of di...

Re: Hand spanking C47
Another first poster. I've lurked for years and considered this forum more for pilots but after reading this excellent thread about the Mighty 3 I thought I'd share. Sometime around the early 80's the DC-3 was landing at Port Hardy in February, blew a tire and veered off the side of the runway with ...
