Re: Current students/recent graduates at Confed or the Sault
I disagree, the subsidized programs ARE much cheaper. Keep in mind the quotes you get from FTU's are best case scenarios, and never seem to be achievable. If you don't mind the time commitment of the college programs (I think confed is 20 months?), you'll save a bunch of cash. Plus, you're already u...

Re: NavCanada's stupid satelite ADSB mandate
I agree with the OP. The added features of the ground based system (mostly realtime wx) are nice. I also wish it were mandatory now...I've had my share of close calls while inspecting pipelines. I wonder if Canada will force US general aviation aircraft to have the space based system to enter the co...

Re: YUL vs YYZ Base
Look into Lancaster, ON. Should find some rental houses there. Also, the sulpher smell in Cornwall went away 20 years ago when the paper mill closed.

Re: Pay for float time, or buy a share to build time on land?
I'd say go for the Champ time, get your CPL, and then worry about floats. The difference between having a float rating (7hrs) and having 50hrs may seem like a lot, but you'll still be an entry level float pilot with those times. Insurance companies require 25 or 50 hrs on floats before you can take ...

Looking for tools / RV8 stuff
Hello, if you know anyone that has any tools or RV8 kits for sale let me know. I'd like to acquire as much as I can locally before buying from the states in the fall. Thank you!

Tips on selling block time?
Hello all, I’m considering selling block time on my Cherokee and would like to hear what others have experienced. I understand I will have to add the person to my insurance policy. Is there anything else that I’d have to do to keep it legal? It’s not considered a business as long as I have less bloc...

Re: New Partnership advice
Also interested in this. The thread is a year old, did you end up buying a plane? I know copa has sample partnership agreements in their "guide to buying an aircraft" for members. I currently have a deposit on a Cherokee with two other guys so I'd love to hear how other partnerships in Canada are se...

Re: Beater Cherokee
Thanks for all the feedback. I did look at the logs but did not think to check for SBs/ADs. The seller said he has not had the tanks out of it in the 10+ years that he owned it. The plane has been in Quebec for as far back as I can tell. About 10,000 on the airframe, but roughly 100 on the prop and ...

Beater Cherokee
Looked at a beater in the pouring rain the other day. When I pulled the backseat and looked at the spar, i noticed about 1/16" of water. The insulation in the spar looked dry. Is this normal on a Cherokee? I know some can have corrosion issues behind the fuel tanks. Also noticed a small amount of co...

When I got my CPL from Confed 10+ years ago, everyone seemed to go to Cornwall for MIFR. http://www.cornwallaviation.com/

Logging multiple back to back flights
When flying for Air Cadets or Copa for kids, and you do three "plane rides" of say 0.5 each without getting out of the aircraft can you make just one log entry of 1.5? I know when you fly "stop and go's" for training it is considered one flight. Does anything change when you cross the hold short lin...
