Re: Demand for float drivers 2019?

I am told that you need at least 110 hours on floats and 600 hours in your log book. Not sure about good crack - but plumber crack will be evident as you work towards your goal of 700 hours. From what I understand they are only looking for transgender pilots ..guys or gals should not apply. The opp...

Float pilot hiring scenario?

Hello again Question to the operators hiring float drivers and pilots hired that maybe came across the scenario: If an operator has Cessna 206 amphibians in their operation only and we're looking for drivers having 206 time of course, would you look at a resume from a float driver that didn't have 2...

Demand for float drivers 2019?

How will it be for 2019? Any chance for guys or gals with roughly 100 hours on floats getting a good Crack at a float job which includes at least over 500 TT in their log book.

Reading that Northern Ontario has the most opportunities.

Thanks in advance

Re: Getting current prior to employment or not?

Thanks for the replies guys. I should make an effort and get the IPC done. If the job you are looking to get will only give you a PCC, you'll need the IPC. If it's a job where you'll get a PPC, no need to get the IPC as the ride will renew your IFR. Well, what if during your training on their aircr...

Re: Reality of starting at 40?

The reality is if it’s airlines you’re looking for it probably isn’t worth it this late in the game. For anything else, it’s a lot better than it ever was provided you’re willing to put up with poor locales and terrible wages to start. Age means you’re less likely to jump to the airlines and is an ...

Re: Where is this so called shortage

The 1500 hr rule is a fantastic idea that I support. However it won't prevent the training problems of 703/704. Plus a 1500hr instructor still meets the 1500hr rule and is only marginally better than a 250 hr wonder. A FTU 152 is so vastly different in operation than anything 705 that it's almost i...

Re: How do I make connections to land that firsts job?

Hello all, I was wondering how I would go about building meaningful connections to be able to land my first job in this industry? The problem is that I don’t know anyone in aviation and I am a nobody in the industry. I am just worried that once my training is completed, I won’t have any connections...

Re: Where is this so called shortage

Just do it the way the U.S is doing it , minimum 1500 hours to get the right seat job and now you don't deal with all these so called young 200 hour wonder kids flying with their captains that have to babysit them. Then you'll have a decent crew that won't bend the metal and maybe the complaning fro...

Re: Where is this so called shortage

There will never be a shortage of "licenced commercial " pilots only a shortage of experienced pilots.

I wonder if all these shortage articles are to fish in people to becoming a pilot and spend their money.

Again no shortage of licenced pilots out there.

Re: Skylink (YHM 16 hour days?)

For the most part it was 3 days on and 1 day reserve, however there was a few weeks due to shortages or people being sick where you'd work 4 or 5 days but it wasn't common practice. As far as the 3 weeks days and 3 weeks nights I am unsure if thats how they are doing it now, it wasn't like that in ...

Re: Skylink (YHM 16 hour days?)

I've never experienced that, I have had a three day week of days and one day of reserve and got called in on reserve for a day shift. Never did I do a day-night-day. We have had pilots in the past that have done that but at their request for time building etc. CYHM-CYGK-CYHM (9.5 hours in the hotel...

Re: Skylink (YHM 16 hour days?)

Great company to work for and build some time. There was a few different runs, two during the day left at 630am came home at 930pm-10pm the other day run left at 630am was home by 630-7pm. Typically we flew 3-4 days a week and weekends/holidays off. There was two night runs, one to JFK left at 1130...

Re: Skylink (YHM 16 hour days?)

Most likely a split duty day. Fly out to wherever, secure the airplane, chill in a hotel all day, fly home. Not the most likely lifestyle if you have a family with young kids at home to be away for so long five days a week. I see on flightaware the day starts at 6 am and back at base (YHM) at rough...

Skylink (YHM 16 hour days?)

I was just on flightaware and checking out where Skylink flies out of the Hamilton base. I see they fly 5 days a week and their duty days are at least 14 to 16 hours a day, is this valid? If there are any skylink pilots on AvCanada that can verify this it would be nice to hear, it does sound like a ...

Re: My early Flight Instructor training

Looks fun, I remember having moments through my instructor rating when I questioned whether or not I'd make it as an instructor. It is certainly a humbling experience for a new freshly minted CPL to learn all of the ins and outs of teaching the 'basics'. Instructors are becoming rare in today's hir...

Just looking into what their schedule looks like, last I heard it was 10 on 10 off, could if possible from one the pilots there confirm this if you're on Avcanada.
