Re: Transat or Porter?

Before covid, free alcohol was standard for economy in Europe And this is relevant how? Not trying to be snarky, just trying to understand, it seems like a totally irrelevant thing to mention. lol, I had the same thought, who cares about before Covid. That was then, this is now and most companies a...

Re: Transat or Porter?

heranos had actual labs and ran actual blood tests, but using conventional means and equipment. They couldn't do it better or cheaper than anyone else, which was what they sold their investors. Theranos claimed they could do blood tests rapidly from a tiny amount of blood. They couldn't. Porter cla...

Re: Transat or Porter?

I don't know why you keep referencing Theranos and Holmes. Apples to Orange situations here. Indeed. Theranos's issue was that it turned out they didn't actually have a product. Speculate all you want about Porter's financials but you can't deny they have an actual product. Planes are flying and ta...

Janitroll wrote: Wed Jan 31, 2024 5:33 pm Why are some pilots still signing bonds? Don't they want bonuses instead?
This sounds a bit like "let them eat cake".

Not everyone will get an interview invite from a company with signing bonuses. As you said yourself, those are pretty uncommon even in today's environment.

Yeah, definitely don't apply two years out.

Unless you're considering paying off the bond and leaving your current employer sooner. It may make financial sense, depending on what you're paid now.

They're desperate for Dash CAs at the moment. They're hiring DECs. The only thing that would hold you back is your qualifications, not seniority.

, hire a dozen or more additional crew schedulers making little more than minimum wage. Have their sole purpose in building schedules that accommodate Pilots starting and ending pairings in their domiciles. Ha ha, Porter crew schedulers have a hard enough time building schedules starting and ending...

Total $160K, of which about $90K is base pay, $40K is overtime and the rest is per diems, allowances (dry cleaning, transportation etc) and premiums for committees/tasks/projects.

Re: External E2 hire and Seniority

1. Yes, anyone hired after you will have lower seniority regardless of which type they are hired for. It's a single seniority list. Management has promised they'll keep it that way. 2. It's hard to know, there are too many variables. Some of the other bases will probably be more senior on average th...

Re: Jazz or Porter?

If your goal is AC, then Porter. A ton of people moved to AC from Porter recently, some after less than a year of being employed. Whereas at Jazz the flow has all but stopped. However, if your AC plans fall through and you consider which company would offer better WAWCON and has a more promising pot...

Re: A lifetime of learning when to fly....

Not every businessman pilot is the Joe type, but they definitely do exist. I had the ¨pleasure¨of having one as my first ever student. He called the school to inquire about lessons, and his first question was whether he could do his ab initio flight training on a jet. Then, when he showed up for the...

Re: How do credits work?

Your company should have a document that outlines how credit is awarded. Your schedule should also have daily credit listed. Generally the credit is flying time or 4 hours, whichever is greater. Sometimes there are other stipulations (e.g., at my company the credit cannot be less than half of total ...

Re: Haemochromitosis and Cat 1?

No experience with this but I just wanted to say good luck. I know getting diagnosed with a chronic disease can be a downer for anyone, but especially scary for us pilots. I can't find any Canadian guidance but FAA seems to allow cases that don't cause major complications; in fact, it looks like the...
