Re: How The PTA transfers Encore pilots

Who are you talking to? Seriously??

What exactly are you hoping to accomplish here?

Find a more appropriate place to ponder the legalities of our seniority list ahead of a negotiation with an outside body for integration of positions on said seniority list.

Re: WestJet Pilot Seniority List (PSL/WPSL)

John, I respect what you’re doing here and I do think you’d be an asset to the merger committee. I too agree that the best outcome for everyone will be an amicably negotiated resolution. BUT… The fact still remains that it will come to a negotiation. How about we keep the spit-balling & dialogue abo...

Re: DEC Westjet Swoop

Is that right? Most equitable way you say? So… what you’re saying is that if you’re in the top 1% of Sunwing pilots - hired in 2015ish then the most equitable thing is that you get to parachute into the top 1% of the WestJet seniority list and bump out a senior skipper on the 787 that has been at W...

Re: DEC Westjet Swoop

Do you know for sure that the SunWing pilots will be merged with all WJ group company pilots, including Encore pilots? Or would they be merged with only the WJ mainline and Swoop pilots who are in one bargaining unit (Encore having its own bargaining unit)? Of course I don’t know for sure. But does...

Re: DEC Westjet Swoop

It might be reasonable for WJ pilots to seek a fence around the 787 positions for a limited period of time. I don’t disagree. But why would the 787 positions be so sacred as to deserve a fence while other positions are not? Would a senior YVR or YYC captain not deserve a fence around their position...

Re: DEC Westjet Swoop

Well, I’m sure that will prove to be true. But I can’t help but wonder what method the merger committees consisting of Sunwing’s 460 Unifor pilots pitted against WestJet’s 2241-strong ALPA pilots will come up with. Somehow I doubt it will be a hokey seniority ratio metric that ignores 2 decades wor...

Re: DEC Westjet Swoop

[/quote] A weighted merge would be better (if a merge happened at all). For example, if you're 20% up the list at Sunwing, you land 20% up on the newly-combined list. If you're 50% up the list at Sunwing, you land 50% up the newly-combined list, and so on. That's really the most equitable way. [/quo...

Re: WestJet pilots to fly Swoop aircraft

The real question is: why would any of the current Swoop pilots want to stay now? There are only a handful of them and you know that the list of names is already widely circulating amongst the 1500+ pilots at WestJet & Encore. These pilots will not be able to remain anonymous and that most certainly...

The original poster of that Yammer thread is one of he classiest, most professional people I know. I ran your question by him and and he has stated that he unequivocally does not want it reposted on a public forum. It is an internal conversation and he would like to keep it that way. Like I said ......

Re: Let's all apply at Swoop!

Anyone still want to go to Swoop? Sounds like you might enjoy a year or so of poverty wages and then your options will either be: A) The court ruling goes in favour of ALPA and you either become unemployed or get to keep your job and wind up a Dash-8 FO at the bottom of the Encore seniority list Or ...

Re: Why would anyone want to go to Swoop?

Argue the numbers all you want. Justify the pay all you want. The facts speak for themselves: captains that have been at WestJet for 2 decades gross little more than $2000 per cheque. That is a fact. Swoop is paying less than half of what those captains make. The pay may end up slightly better than ...

Re: Why would anyone want to go to Swoop?

Well, after all of the deductions & taxes on the esp, etc a 10 year Captain takes home about $2000 per pay cheque at WestJet and their hourly rate is close to double that of Swoop. The “financial perks” are also double. The saying at WJ is T4 rich and Cash poor. Not sure what it would work out to an...

Re: Why would anyone want to go to Swoop?

Uncertainty - WJ has launched an Unfair Labour Practices complaint against ALPA. ALPA will likely do the same in the coming weeks. Then there is the almost-certain filing of Common Employer status, etc. In other words, this is about to get very messy for a very long time and there is no telling how...

Re: WJ ALPA Member Resigns Membership

Bravo. So you and some “senior” pilot have “resigned” from ALPA. Not sure exactly what purpose that serves since they will still be your governing representation, you will still be paying the same dues and you will still be bound by any decisions or negotiations they make. All you’ve really accompli...

Re: Why would anyone want to go to Swoop?

Yep, it’s in the Agreement which is currently frozen under Canadian Labour Law and it will certainly end up in court/arbitration. Hard to say how it will play out in the end but this was the crux of my argument and the reason I started the thread in the first place. Not to belittle other pilots or t...

Aren't all of you west jetty people, umm 'Owners' with a bunch of stock? Does that not make you shareholders? With a vote? With the ability to punt GS? Or the board that elected the dingus? Re: Imagine if ALPA OC had had patience, and forethought!

Most of us senior pilots don't have a preference for what you do. We're fine with our existing pay and schedules and just waiting for the 787. Good luck to you in your choices. #notwinning You know, I’ve always found your “screw-the-junior-guy” attitude amusing. Concerning, but amusing. Funny you s...

One does not see Doctors or Lawyers undercutting each other to advance their own careers. Unless you are an ambulance-chaser. But then, I guess you’d pretty much be in the same league as a Swoop pilot.

No need to slash tires. Let these bitter expats trickle back home with their tails between their legs if that’s what they have their hearts set on. They’ll soon realize their mistake when they’re working for peanuts, paying taxes through the nose, working 20 days a month bouncing around western Cana...
