Re: Recession incoming

The thing that many members of the real estate cult seem to miss is that there are only a few ways of cashing in on real estate wealth. Let's say you buy a house, and the value increases like crazy. You're all excited because you've made six figures' profit doing nothing. You can even borrow agains...

Nice new equipment. Weird management! Huge bonds, below industry standard wages, and no ability to develop any sort of long term plan with this operation. It is a millionaires toy box so he and his son can fly his G280 as "Captain" while someone sits in the right seat and puts out all the fires. Th...

I am applying for a new raic in yyz starting a new job back from overseas. According to the lovely lady at the pass office because I have been out of the country for more than 120 cumulative days, I need to provide information on every country I went to, the dates I stayed there and the addresses o...

Re: Ramp Wait Times

Companies everywhere are screaming for pilots. There are so many stories of people taking ramp jobs just to have direct flight line guys sneak right ahead of them. Honestly the answers to your questions are very easily googled. Between google and calling an independent school, you will find everything you need to know. I second Cornwall, as another said. Took me less than 20 days for multi and multi IFR

Re: Getting my ppl- go direct or in steps

Thanks for the input fellas, i do appreciate it. Thinking that direct to ppl is probably a better way to go at this point; just really wish that there was a school closer than 2 hours away. A few people i have talked recommended doing the ppl ground school course online if i cant make the time to d...

Re: urgent: Sault college or Confederation

I can't comment on either but I do know that I went to one of the high volume traditional flight schools and cornwall for the M/IFR and it was less than a year from my first flight lesson to having a job on a twin turbine aircraft. From what I know the remainder of the class that doesn't get chosen ...

Re: Tired of the Canadian Aviation Industry

The cost of living in Canada is also substantially less than in most of western Europe and Australia; every list I've seen even has Canada ranked as more affordable than the US. Gas and food are substantially cheaper than Europe and Australia, and, even though a few cities are very expensive to buy...

I can just imagine the FO's face... Finally getting out of 703 ops and bullshit, you make it to Air Canada. Sitting in your glorious jet with a grin on your face. Your butt still a little bit sore from the AC medical. Top notch 705 maintenance. No cutting corners. You take the logbook, you look at ...

Re: Lift Video

Everyone here is overcomplicating the matter, there is only one explanation you will use every flight. Lift is a byproduct of money. Money is traded for dinosaur juice which is used to make fire. Fire makes plane go up.

Re: What's your suggestion about training?

If you're really good you can get it done for those prices. However I would plan for $80K and if you do it for less than great!

Your biggest problem is going to be finding a right to work in Canada. Have you thought about how you're going to do that?

Re: 29 age BComm(New Graduate) from Qc, Career Switch

Couple things: 1) Modular can be much faster than integrated. 8 Months is possible for CPL MIFR and will run 50K if you're smart about it and 75K if you're not. Right now, if you hustle you can get a job almost immediately. 2) Before asking all these questions, take 3 discovery flights over a weeken...

Re: Free Money Management Advice.

Both of your reasons are legitimate. I'm just starting my career and here's my logic if I was faced with the decision. (totally open to any criticism) I just started flying for money this year. I assume that over 5 years my salary should go up. Let's assume I make $2500/month which increases $250/m...

Re: Free Money Management Advice.

This is key: The cost of money. The ominous "debt" can actually be a great tool. For example. If you have $20,000 saved up to buy a car and the current financing offer is 0% for 84 months. It's a great idea. Provided the $20,000 is invested elsewhere. Always say yes to free money! Disagree. "Free i...

Re: Free Money Management Advice.

It's a nice thought of rookiepilot to offer free financial advice, but the problem is - those who would actually listen are probably already aware of what he speaks of, and the rest won't change their habits or thinking anyway, they're too busy trying to figure out how to get more credit to buy mor...

Does Anyone Have a Dog?

Throughout my childhood, members of my family have been allergic to dogs and so we never had one. Recently, I've been doing research on what dogs would adapt well to having their human have a sporadic schedule with lots of time away from home. Right now it seems like a cat might be a better option (...

Re: Is the trainer you fly and start with important to an career in aviation?

I think this thread has gone on a bit of a tangent. Although many good points have been argued on what makes the "best" pilot, the type of trainer or panel you do your basic training on makes no difference in the eventual ability to get to the majors. If you want to work for the Majors you need a re...

Your time is better spent making money than trying to get a free flight. You first off seem to need to re-organize your general finances. However long distance sucks and I'm sure you can go see your girlfriend if you really want to. Here are ways I've made money in tough times: - Go on Kijiji and se...
