Re: What was your career before ATC?

I got in with a social science degree. Most math you need you would've learned by grade 5.

Re: Hired ATC YVR - Questions during training

It's probably accommodated but it's also probably not a good idea. As a new trainee, you don't have the experience to come back and know how to do the job. You will fall behind so fast that whatever progress you've made in training will likely be lost. This won't be the last time you'll hear this, b...

Re: Random drug tests?

There’s no drug test at work after your initial pre-employment one. Even if there’s an incident there is no drug test. That's shocking. Imo it should be the first thing done after an incident. I think an ATC license holder knows better than to take drugs, be impaired, put two together and be found ...

Re: National VFR Training Course?

no one here, or even those in the training department, will likely have an answer for you. staffing requirements change all the time. it's possible that you're slated for YYZ at the start of the course, but end up in YVR at the end.

Offered FSS again. Declined again. Asked about other possible courses across Canada and questioned my eligibility (if until this point I was told I passed for all streams...why FSS twice?) You are “eligible” but likely in the sense that if no one else scored higher than you at the cut date, you wou...

Re: Training standby offer

Hiring already answered your question so I’m not sure what kind of answer you’re going to get here. is that course at the FIC? If they’re running all courses out of the ACC, it will still be an hour and a half commute regardless. While I won’t say it’s impossible, if you’re offered an FSS standby, g...

Re: How strict are Transport Canada with issuing medical licenses if a test falls close to the standard limit?

I'm not sure at what point they want you to have a medical in hand, but I would imagine that if you don't have it by the time they need it, you will get CT'd. The cohort moves ahead together. It will be very hard for them to run just a course for one person (you), and I'm sure you would appreciate t...

Re: How strict are Transport Canada with issuing medical licenses if a test falls close to the standard limit?

If it came close to limits, there’s a good chance the RAMO will want more information from a specialist. You’ll hear from them either way. Depending on what specialist you need to see and what kind of tests you’ll need to do, that can really hold you back in getting your medical. For example… needin...

If by now you still haven’t been placed into the pool, it’ll be too late. Good rule of thumb is to be eligible roughly 4-5 months before course start.

then when you are successful at bidding to the area you want, the specialty you're currently in will also need to be able to release you (which can potentially take more years). And not to mention you have to actually train and be successful there. Not a guarantee you’ll succeed, but at least guara...

Whenever the need arises although that they’ve determined when course start dates will be depending on region - with some searching here, you’ll be able to piece together the approximate start dates for upcoming courses in your region.

You can expect approximately 3-4 months notice prior to starting.

You probably can't go wrong sending it directly to TC. Ultimately it's the RAMO who needs to documentation, the CAME is just the middle-person in all of this.

Re: Background Check Questions

I believe they will contact you directly. Typically, the relationship between you and your CAME is fairly superficial, you turn up for an examination, and that's it. There are a few who offer consultancy services, like Trevor Gillmore north of Toronto. Yup I can confirm they message you directly vi...

Re: Reference Program?

I heard the same as well.

The recruiting process is completely different than before, so the advantage to the referral program is almost nil. The referral program was meant to help improve success rates, but I'm not sure if the company got the desired results.

The hardest part about the application is the patience required.

Re: Should I Accept An FIC Offer Or Wait For IFR/VFR?

Worst case scenario if I don’t get an IFR/VFR offer I may still be offered FIC again in the future, correct? correct only if the company stops recruiting (again). nothing in the recruiting process is static and your rank will definitely change as they assess more people. imo the best time to get in...
