Re: List of lower end of bond & training agreement amounts

The tax process allows the airline to avoid the full cost of training No, it just means the cost of training is paid from revenue prior to calculation of profits, Then the taxes are reduced & company profits are higher No. Taxes are reduced * BECAUSE * profits are reduced. You don't pay taxes on re...

Re: Failed Instructor Rating flight test. Any tips to do better?

My instructor taught me the following: if you encounter a headwind, slightly increase power and pitch down to speed up a bit; do opposite for tailwind. I hope you misunderstood! The whole point of teaching illusions is to make sure pilots * DON'T * do that -- especially slowing down for a t...

Re: INRAT Question

Perhaps it was stated with the assumption that you take a flight test within two years ( and obviously pass it), and if you lose recency, you no longer have to re-write the INRAT. That sounds more like it. Failing (or skipping) an IPC doesn't invalidate the rating, so you don't have to re-write the...

Re: What IFR time counts for an IFR rating

I think their argument is that the instrument time in the PPL is essentially unusual attitudes vs. actual IFR flying, so it's not really the stuff you're working on in the IFR rating. But even if that was the case, the instrument time in the night rating included at least one approach to minimums, ...

It's valid for 2 years from date of writing. Yep, two years, per CAR 400.03: Time Limits 400.03 (1) Subject to subsection (3), written examinations, including all sections of a sectionalized examination, that are required for the issuance of a permit or licence or for the endorsement of a permit or...

Re: What IFR time counts for an IFR rating

I have a bunch of hours that I did in my PPL, so carried in a bunch of time under the hood ( 15 hrs). 15 hours of hood on the PPL is unusual, but there's nothing wrong with doing it, and the time absolutely counts. My instructor is telling me ( which is coming from the Chief instructor) that simula...

Go to a northern operator, get some bush time and wait your turn. Too many of your type in the industry who think they’re entitled. Wow. Someone with a little bit of experience comes on here looking for advice to help with their job search and you call that "entitled". Amazing. Congratulations, you...

Re: Cheapest possible IFR approach at airport

Would it solve your problem to just get a waypoint published over your aerodrome instead of a whole approach? I'm not sure what that would involve, but it might be possible and if so it would likely be easier/cheaper than an approach. All you need is lat and long to build your own GPS approach. Tha...

Re: 300NM CPL requirment

How does this explain that Transport accepted my PTR, even though I did my 300 NM X-country before I started my CPL training? Did I just get lucky, or is it possible that the 300 NM flight can be done any time prior to applying for the CPL license, whether it was done as part of an "approved traini...

Re: 300NM CPL requirment

Note that the solo requirement does not mention being under the supervision of a flight instructor, while the dual requirement does. Based on this, I would conclude that it isn't necessary to be signed out by an instructor for the 300 nm flight. It's tempting to accept this interpretation (and real...

Re: What does it really take to make a career destinaton

I don't care about work beyond safety above all and then quality of life, and pay mostly that order so I can enjoy my life away from work. This. But I would argue that these three things are all actually safety. If you have no quality of life, you will be stressed and fatigued. If you aren't paid p...

Re: Aero Course ATPL Mach questions

Relation between Mach and true airspeed varies with altitude. The relationship between Mach and true airspeed varies with temperature , which is given. V_mach = 661*sqrt(T/T_ref), where T and T_ref are in Kelvin. T_ref is 288K (15C), and T in this case is 228K (-45C). The answer I get is 15.4 min f...

I believe (though am subject to the knowledge of experts) that if you have a helicopter license that is a student permit for fixed wing. No. Any IFR ride can be done in actual as long as you have a legal alternate. So you (and the examiner) get to set the weather minima you'll use based on your experience level and aircraft equipment/capability.
