Re: "Self Study" Groundschool
@ Conflicting Traffic You still haven't said what you think counts as instruction. It seems that you want 40 hours with a qualified instructor? What about self-study textbooks? It's been my experience that transport doesn't think you need an official groundschool honestly I don't either. Heck I know...

Re: "Self Study" Groundschool
I guess what kind of interaction do you mean? A full 40 hours with an instructor? Only a letter of recommend? Since TC has vetted Harvs Air ground school and many students have done the self-study method I assume the status quo is fine even if it's open to interpretation in the rules. If TC wants it...

Re: Pay for you PPC - Is it starting already?
I find this whole thing interesting because of the Westwind/Transwest relationship. Does anyone know if the f/o's from laid off from Westwind have a chance at getting hired?

Re: Westwind
That being said, your post would suggest captains should've marched into the CP's office and say they refuse to fly to ZFD until they upgrade the deicing equipment. Care to take a guess at how that would've played out? The answer to that is simple. The flight would not go until the safety iss...

Re: Westwind
When senior managers who have absolutely no aviation experience are tasked with running an airline you will undoubtedly see a corporate culture change, and definitely not for the better. You simply can’t run an airline like a tour bus or trucking company. I’m actually surprised this didn’t happen s...

Re: Potash Corp flight department shutdown ???
At least one of the pilots was to fly the g550. The whole thing started I want to say in the late spring early summer but I'm not 100%, so it's pretty old news to the people involved.

Re: Difference between schools and its prices
You have to look at what is in the quote. I have found that across the board the costs aren't a whole lot different, just the way they are presented. Some quote the commercial program on top of the private one, some include a multi ifr etc.

Re: Exce$$ive ground briefings
Was it only straight and level or was it checking the weather, an explanation on where the run up was going to take place, where the training area is, what ancillary controls are, what is going to happen with talking on the radio, etc? This can most definitely take an hour. By the time I was done in...

Re: Flight instructor "shortage "
I quit instructing about two months ago. I thought I did an excellent job teaching students how to fly and even though we couldn't do every scenario that they might encounter, helped them develop common sense and good judgement. Some of my students have gone on very quickly to be very very successfu...

Re: Westwind
Since Transport was already brought up I'll leave them out but I am curious if the union ever mentioned the lack of deicing available for ATRs. Or Occupational health and safety. Or the SMS officer. Did anyone speak up? There is a whole bunch of people that should be held at least partially accounta...

Re: Westwind
Interesting. The news reports that WEW is still grounded. Maybe a WEW pilot flying a TWA plane messed up his paperwork? http://www.cbc.ca/beta/news/canada/saskatoon/west-wind-aviaiton-lays-off-10-pilots-economic-1.4576459 Westwind's 1900s were flying the other day. Maybe Transport changed their mind?
