Re: TC license authorization for a once off ferry of a Panama registered aircraft

The actual rule is you need a licence of the airspace you are in or of the registration of the aircraft. If you are ferrying the aircraft from Canada to the US holding a Canadian licence and a US validation of your Canadian licence would be acceptable. If transmitting several jurisdictions it is eas...

Re: IATRA exam

Written exams are not valid for life as recency is also a requirement. Review 401.05 (1) (b)(iii) if you have not flown as PIC or copilot within 5 years then a written exam becomes part of the requirement to requality.

Re: ADSB diversity update?

I believe the issue is not what NavCanada plans or wants. TC will need to add the requirement to 605 to be required.

Re: FAA IR to TC IR Conversion TC Problem - Help!

I concur with the other comments but suggest you discuss with TC. Since the FAA license was based on your Canadian license rather then a third country it is reasonable to use the bilateral conversion process for the IFR rating. Familiar with a number of occasions where it was accepted.

Re: ATPL Application process tips

The written exam process for the ATPL use to have 4 exams rather then the two we now have. There was also a senior commercial license then. The same exams for both but a higher pass mark for the ATPL.

Re: Spins Not Specified In POH, Illegal?

I am not aware of any aircraft in the normal category that can spin. Most training aircraft that can be must be within the more restrictive utility category. This typically is at a reduced weight and restrictive C of G envelope although there may be other restrictions. The PA 28 140 for instance whe...

Re: New TC Cannabis rules

No one has mentioned ICAO, as a signatory we have international responsibilities. For Canadian pilot licenses to be accepted operating Canadian aircraft outside of Canada I suspect a very conservative policy was required.

Re: What is required for someone to start an online ground school?

Check out 405.21 (5) be prepared to show you have the required knowledge to provide the training. Historically this was done by the flight school as TC does monitor the exam results by flight training unit. As there are minimum flight times involved as well identify how you will confirm flight hours...

Although I can not provide any current information I have a great deal of experience reviewing applications and making determinations on what solo was acceptable. The standards to not provide guidance for each circumstance. An applicant who holds a private pilot licence with an instrument rating wit...

Re: X-Country in PTR

People come at this from a variety of perspectives. The PTR is a record of your training and a document to pass comments regarding next steps as well as confirming you have met TC’s licensing requirements. One trusts that before starting your first dual cross country you have been provided with map ...

Re: Max take-off weight for privat pilot licence

I believe that was dropped with the change to CARS. The privileges are found in 401. For the private pilot aeroplane they are: Division VI — Private Pilot Licence Aeroplanes — Privileges 401.26 The holder of a private pilot licence — aeroplane may act as (a) pilot-in-command or co-pilot of an aeropl...

Re: language proficiency

Aviatard is close but not totally correct. TC conducted file reviews to determine competency. Communications such as letters and flight tests were reviewed. Most were assessed on that basis with some files with minimal information being dealt with by a phone conversations with an inspector or licens...

Re: IFR Certified Plane

A single engine IFR is of little value for a commercial pilot. If you are interested in eventually working in a multi-engine two crew operation consider a basic aircraft that you can use up to the commercial and build up time for the IFR. Go to a school for the combined multi-engine and IFR in a twin.

Re: language proficiency

Canada only has three levels, expert, operational, not qualified. Operational equates to level 4 ICAO, if your license shows just English and French you are expert ( level 6) in both.

Re: Exce$$ive ground briefings

I was involved in management at two different schools. We chose not to bill for prep briefing unless under extraordinary circumstances but charged a higher rate for the dual and paid the instructors more. Unless all costs are up front your clients will feel duped.

Re: Flying school costs

You need not cost out a night endorsement as it is part of the commercial licence. Recommend you try to complete the instrument portion as much as possible at night. That way the non instrument portion of the flight can be logged as night dual. Night pilot In command often difficult to acquire so ge...
