Re: How will Immediate roadside prohibition affect career as an airline pilot ?

It's probably a great highlight that you have terrible decision making skills and one of the many other applicants in the pool should be chosen over you. Too bad you weren't in Alberta....I'd be wondering if it was me who shredded your license. I love catching impaired drivers. I still haven't found...

Re: How long til $100k?

This is depressing to read. I'm looking at timelines and responsibilities you guys had. I made more than many of you driving a truck, and then working through my apprenticeship as an auto tech. Now in law enforcement at 130K for 2023 and I'm thinking it would be too tough of a pill to swallow to swi...

Re: Has anyone bought an aircraft recently?

I saved until I could make outright purchases of a plane and hangar. I bought the nicest plane I could purchase while keeping 10K cash in a rainy day fund and bought a wonderful 2 seater. I couldn't imagine the "behind the ball" feeling of financing a plane. I bought the hangar in 2020 and aircraft ...

Re: Hand flying Cirrus

Are you waiting for prices to come down on things? I'm curious on your buying timeline. I haven't been looking at cirrus price levels but I'm leaning towards waiting longer for my 2 seater upgrade to a family hauler. Lots of pretty ads out there for planes that have been sitting for a few months now...

Re: Calgary flying club , sky wing aviation, absolute aviation or centennial aviation?

Super T Aviation in Medicine Hat accepts international students....they own several 172s so booking is rarely an issue. They also have on-airport accommodations that you can get a good price on so you don't need to worry about hotel costs. I fly out of Medicine Hat and nearby Bow Island and you rare...

There's a longer video available online where the football player slaps the employee before the employee slaps back. https://calgaryherald.com/news/local-news/viral-video-shows-fight-between-calgary-stampeders-player-united-airlines-worker Loser football player so innocent now? Re: Did I waste Time And Money?

I got into flight sims at around 9-10 years old. I was HEAVY into any and every flight sim I could get my hands on through my teenage years. I had joined a virtual airline at the time as the internet was developing and I was doing various assigned routes and figured out VOR tracking etc on the early...

Re: A Career in Aviation or Law Enforcement?

Avoid law enforcement. I'm a cop and all my senior friends agree the job turned to garbage starting in 2015 with the meth and fentanyl scourge turning people into zombies. I have been in patrols, traffic, and I'm also a bomb tech. Policing is glorified babysitting now. Majority of calls are domestic...

When I left being a Ford technician in 2015 I was paid a guaranteed minimum that worked out to 44/hr.

26/hr for an AME is downright brutal

Re: Getting into Flying Insurance Premiums

I'm in the boat of the PPL that is tired of renting. My rental flights are short hops and the aircraft has to be back. I spends hundreds of dollars to spend 30 minutes looking at the runway at some other bodunk city before turning back. IT HAS GOTTEN VERY OLD I have around 130 hrs TT, and I called a...

Re: Help with buying a used plane

At the moment there are very few small piston singles available on the market at a sensible price. Were I selling right now, I'd decline to allow an invasive inspection of my airframe. As far as I know, there are no defects with the airframe. If that's not good enough, there will be another buyer a...

Re: Get a Trade discussion

If you are going to plug away at a trade for something in a 4-5 year commitment do something in the construction trades. It's easier to become self employed after if you stay in the industry longer than expected and with minimal investment in equipment and tools compared to something like automotive...

Re: Interesting airplane ads

The market is so full of perfumed up pigs its crazy. Every time I see a good deal it sells right away and pops back up for sale by the next owner for 10-20k more too. That has been super common during this pandemic too. Lots of sellers who have only owned their aircraft for a few months when you run...

Re: What are the unlucky doing?

Trucking is a decent suggestion. There are piles of job ads for trucking positions. I'm not a commercial pilot but I drove long haul after the 2008 recession. Very little education/training considering the decent pay. To get a trade is a minimum 4 year commitment. I'm a journeyman automotive tech to...

Re: Is being a Commercial Pilot in Canada worth it?

I went the other route. I have a trade under my belt, another diploma, and currently in a career that makes just over 100k/year. I'm finally at the point where I fly for fun but I'm honestly jealous of my friends who have spent the last decade getting paid to fly while I was stuck on the ground. The...

Re: "COVID pricing" for aircraft sales?

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to wait until spring as there is some work I want to do to the hangar before I put an aircraft in there. At that point I'll see if things have begun to cool off or if I just need to suck it up. I definitely echo the same thoughts as what's mentioned in here about lo...

"COVID pricing" for aircraft sales?

Is it just me, or does the current market for aircraft seem ridiculously overinflated? Is this an effect of COVID and people wanting to do more socially distanced activities (like flying?) Last spring I was looking as a cash in hand buyer and made the decision to do some home renos instead, and bump...

Re: School me on hangars

The local hangars around me seem to cost 400/mo once the building is paid for (so bank on 1000/mo and higher) to fully finance and pay for if you put nothing down. Guys who rent out half of a 2-plane hangar want 350-400/mo rent. Some hangars are cheaper if you don't mind your aircraft getting shoved...

Thanks for posting that story. Let us know if you find it. This quarantine business has me partly living vicariously through other people's solo missions so I'd genuinely love to hear about it!
