Re: The sad state of regional pilots in Canada

You might read things on here like "now has never been a better time to become a pilot". You hear about signing bonuses of up to $40k, regional pilots topping $60k in their first year. Most seem happy with their career thus far. Sounds good right? Nope, no such luck in Canada. Let's do the math (al...

Re: Swoop ?

By that logic A380 pilots should make the same as a CRJ100. Hell, the guy doing minow trapping in a supercub, $2500/month plus room and board. They're all airplanes, not rocket ships. The bigger the plane, the bigger the paycheck. Similar sized planes doing similar work should pay the same. Swoop 7...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread

Use to take 10 years to FO wide body. Crazy!!!! Making 50 grand in the right seat , I think AC pilots should not look any other airline crew in the eyes as we walk by in the terminal. We suck...... I'm a bit surprised foreign carriers aren't actively trying to poach these WB FO new hires after they...

Re: Jazz Approach

I’ve always said this would happen. It’s the next logical step for Canadian aviation. Most of the other countries you don’t have to “pay your dues” up North or work as a flight instructor. You simply finish your training and get on with an airline in a mentor ship role. Sit as a Second officer and ...

Jets fly out of Pearson. The UP has cemented that. You will NEVER see the 220 at the island. This is Canada. Progress not allowed.

Re: Air Canada Pay

AC pilots will end up in aribitration sooner than later. How can they demand "industry standard" (even close to US carriers) when the rest of Canada is willing to work for way less garbage wages for airline work. It is absolutely up to the other carriers to step up their game. Ac is getting dragged...

Interesting points posted above. The other outright negative posts I’m ignoring. Wanna know why? Because I never act like my life is perfect. It took a lot of ups and downs to get to this point. If I have flaws and losses then you have them too. Super dickish’ of you guys to bring up a PFO and my l...

YYC-FCO... the money maker It’s kind of like YYC-DUB, which this summer was half filled with Americans from the West Coast USA. The US3 are not pleased seeing AC/RV pull their passengers out of the USA and send them overseas. Canadian Airlines have a wage and currency advantage. With the WS/DL JV, ...

Re: Regional Career

35 is kind of a low arbitrary number to choose. Many many new hires well over that age. To each their own of course. But giving up a mainline career with all its blemishes for a regional one is a bad idea. Unless you are totally adverse to giving up the 4th bar go to mainline. 10 times out of 10. Wi...

I actually think it’s quite nice for the new hire to not be forced to use their WB FO course right in PIT.

Are new hires on a Target Benefit style pension? DC Pension? DB pension?

I heard recently that everyone is back on the DB. Any truth to this?
Negative. However, it is a future, realistic negotiation goal.
That is just not true. The DB is dead. Cemented in with the 10 year deal.
