Re: Pilots thinking of leaving WJ due to 16 year upgrades

‘The AR program is a bit of a red herring. The numbers right now really are not major and the Company doesn't feel the need to try and force an issue that they would either a: have to spend money on or b: might lose if it went to the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal. As the numbers increase those fac...

Re: Strike lanyard

I was 1000% let down by the occurrences of 14th-15th of October. 1000%. I was READY. Sorry, but why wear a Strike Lanyard now??? That ship was ready to leave port on the Night of the 17th. It's come and gone, as has our momentum. The Strike Lanyard is going to get exponentially more silly as time p...

Re: 737 Overstaffed

Wikipedia shows over 100 737 orders. What I don't know is delivery dates and if they're replacements for retiring NGs or growth. WJ did a massive withdrawal from Eastern Canada. I'm guessing it's a combination of max delivery issues and merger. Both of those are why the airline is stagnating. Is Su...

Re: Agreement in principle reached.

I think until a TA is written up there’s no point getting riled up over this. It’s an executive summary not the final language going into the contract. I remember people being pissed off when the mainline AIP came out but people came around to it when we got the final language and attended the roads...

Re: WORLD CLASS CONTRACT: ALPA

Did ALPA Westjet get a North American standard? ALPA seems to over promise and underdeliver. (I still support them) I just hope we have the numbers to vote NO to whatever ALPA reluctantly agrees to and we actually strike this time. In terms of pay there might have been a bit left to be desired, but...

Re: Realistic upgrade time

Hello to everybody. Although I am aware that this is a dynamic objective, I'm interested to see what a reasonable upgrading timeline would entail for a new recruit today . Obviously, there are many unknowable factors at play, but is 8 to 10 years still a reasonable estimate? Is there anything plann...

Re: Realistic upgrade time

It's currently 9 years to upgrade in YYZ, 15 years for YYC. Average age is mid-40s so not many retirements coming, and the fleet is actually shrinking lately. The Max10 order is to mostly replace what they have in NGs (that's why the execs always refuse to answer that question in town halls about w...

How long are people waiting to find out the results after the interview? I knew I had the job 10 minutes later when I got the background/reference check request, but because of delays with the company they contract that out to my official offer took a couple of weeks. When was this? I know a couple...

Re: Socialized bidding

To clear this up once and for all. From the latest published pilot lists, the date of hire to get off reserve as an FO are as follows: YYZ: Mar 2020 YVR: Mar 2017 YYC: Aug 2017 Source: May 2023 position assignment list published by ALPA. Now none of us know whether this will speed up in the future....

Most junior reserve eligible FO in YYZ is March 2020 (hardly counts, it skips to straight to July 2022 after that thanks to covid) so I wouldn't call it "years"

The bottom ~20% of the list for each position are reserve eligible, above that you'll hold a block and can bid for a schedule

They both just finalized new contracts which pay their captains substantially more than a FO at WJ. I don’t think it will move anyone with an ATPL and time.
Substantially more for what, a couple of years at WJ?

9.1% 100 * 1.10 * 1.091 = 120 100 * 1.20 = 120 The effective amount is 19.1% as the the 10% and 9.1% are added together, not multiplied. On a $100,000 base salary, you are losing $9000. The benefit is that you're getting $91,000 right away instead of waiting a year for it. You obviously arent a wes...

Its more than your monthly takehome at WJ is if you're doing the WSP match in year 1

Ape, Why don't you give us the first 2-3 years of FO pay and Cpt pay and we'll see if you actually knew when the numbers come out? You don't even have to give the the hundredth decimals, just the thousands. FO hourly $82 $91 $120 $131 … Yr 9 $170 Captain 737 hourly $200 $212 $236 $239 … Yr 12 $305 ...

Gave up striking at the 11th hour for this. 🤦‍♂️ Terrible PCP. Those FO rates are at least. $20-$25/hr short of anywhere close to industry standard PCP. Pay rates are only a part of the contract. I'll take the improvements to scope and everything else that we secured over a few dollars more an hour...
