Re: Import aircraft for owner maintenance category questions
Thanks for the info! I am starting to feel like I am getting an understanding of the process and what I am about to start. Oh - and find yourself an AME who's experienced with imports. If you're in Southern Ontario, PM me and I can make a recommendation. Unfortunately, I am in Southern Alberta. If a...

Re: Import aircraft for owner maintenance category questions
I will call Transport next week and see if I can get some answers and documents from them. Sadly, this will be difficult. Unless you have someone's direct number, you'll go straight to an answering machine, and expect to hear back sometime in the next 30 days. I thought that might be the case.... P...

Re: Import aircraft for owner maintenance category questions
Thanks for that reference photofly. Just to clarify, the aircraft will be brought up to airworthy standard, including a full annual on the US side. It will only be coming over with VFR only instruments though. I guess my question was more towards, if it comes up airworthy, does it then have to go to...

Import aircraft for owner maintenance category questions
Hi, My uncle owned an N registered 1979 Cessna 150k in the Great Falls Area. It is not much to look at, but was taken care of. It suffered an avionics fire while on the ground a couple of years ago and hasn’t flown since. (people playing inside it, I never got the whole story). My uncle recently pas...

MEA/OROCA/vectoring altitudes
Hi, Looking for a quick refresher on Off airway Obstruction clearance altitudes. If I am planning an off airway route through a mountainous region, and am looking for the minimum altitude I can file and fly IFR, what is the most accurate way to do this. Way back when I did my training, I was taught ...

Cessna 421 POH Or flight safety manual
Hi,
I am looking for a POH manual for a Cessna 421A. Would take a look at the B if that’s all I can find.
I know flight safety had manuals for this aircraft, so It would be great to find a copy of those as well.
Thanks!

Re: CBAA 2019 Compensation Survey
Thank you! Interesting.... I would have thought some of the numbers would have been higher, and a little more differentiation between super heavy international Captain and a mid size captain. I am slightly sceptical about some of the numbers, given Sprints Citation pay and Legacy pay (5years) would ...

Re: CBAA 2019 Compensation Survey
Good luck, at most management companies, I'm seeing a reluctance to pay more than 120-140k in the left on mid-large jets unless you have extensive former experience or current on type. Right seat you can expect between 80-95k on the same equipment. Long range heavy equipment is harder to pin down. ...

Commute YYC-YYZ/YVR
Hi, Wondering if there are any fairly recent hires that are commuting from YYC. Are you willing to give me a quick low down of how it works? Do most reserves/blocks start in the morning? Do most commuters do the night before kinda things and stay at a crash pad? How often are you making it back to Y...

Re: Intentionally landing on public roads
Most A/C are SLIGHTLY beyond the maximum width allowance without an escort/permit. I do not recall seeing an A/C with turn signals, running and brake lights either. The vehicle equipment regulations of Alberta clearly state; Turn signal lamps 21(1) This section applies to a motor vehicle manufactur...

Re: Orca ad
rumor has it that Orca has offered to match the wage of HO' drivers who decide to jump ship from Sunwest. If that is true, could be an alright deal for those pilots. Sure would beat getting laid off. Hopefully Orca is smart enough to get a few people who know what they are doing. From what I have he...

Re: Mixing comercial and non-comercial flying
WOW! lots of good debate and places to look on here. Just to clarify, I would be acting as as a crew member on the KingAir200 flights, sometimes as the only crew member due to my friends inexperience. Insurance has provided blanket coverage provided pilots have a B200 type rating and 2500 hours of P...

Mixing comercial and non-comercial flying
Hi: I have been having a debate with some colleagues on the legalities associated with flying commercial and non-comercial. Hope you guys are able to help! I have a friend who recently bought a KingAir 200. He would like me to fly it with him, not being compensated in any way. Just as a couple of fr...

Re: Slave Labour?
With jobs like this, the company is going to get exactly what it pays for. If a corporate pilot has the experience to take on a job like this and is willing to accept the crappy term, there must be a reason they couldn't get a better job, ie; a crappy pilot. This "dragging on the bottom of the barre...

Re: Medical in aviation booklet
I had the same situation happen to me. Called transport and they said to just go have it stamped at the examiner. As far as flying before then, you do have a old medical certificate validating an old license so the new one does not come into effect until you have received the new booklet. If you are...

Re: Jobs right out of school?
I know that you are probably quite eager to get out there and put your commercial license to good use, but the sad fact is right now jobs are hard to find even for some higher time people, so it is the bottom of the barrel type jobs you will find right now for someone in the 200 hour range. If you f...

Re: What Next???
Hey; Looks like you got the basics. I wish every new pilot to the industry was issued the guidelines that it looks like you are already following. My advice would be to figure out what you are going to do quickly and get on it. The past year has definitely been a pilots market, but it is quick to ch...

Re: Contrail.....??
Not quite. First off, Contrails is not a certifying agency. Their safety requirements are not for the industry, but rather the people who are serviced by the industry. The rules are not designed to protect charter employees, but are to protect the business people and employees of the oil companies t...
