Re: Hiring Minimums
That's what they told me when I was getting cpl, and we heard it year on year ever since. I was directly involved in hiring of pilots from 2000 till 2018. During that entire period I dont think we ever had less than 50 qualified resume on file for the seat when it became vacant. Pay at Canadian air...

The word is that the WJAMEC did not make themselves available until five days after the company requested a meeting with them. The WJAMEC allegedly was the only union in the company not to make themselves available. With that said, I support ALPA and have full faith in them to stand up for our pilo...

Yes, but neither of those are airlines which the quote refers to. Training and fractional ownership.Didn't Buffet's company buy Flightsafety and also ordered just under 10 billion dollars worth of private jets a few years ago?

Re: Airline stock.
My advice is, if you're an airline pilot, avoid airline stock. When it tanks is when you get furloughed. The worst sort of business is one that grows rapidly, requires significant capital to engender the growth, and then earns little or no money. Think airlines. Here a durable competitive advantage ...

Westjet didn't start charging for bags until October, therefore those dollars wouldn't have affected third-quarter results. If you have a problem with a public company making record profits, buy their stock.

Bold statement. Which category do you fall into?People that know business - don't know squat about aviation, and people that know aviation know nothing about business. It's a horrible catch 22.

Why not use APU bleed air and turn the engine bleeds off for takeoff?100% Positive about that.
Just a thought.

You take a job at an airline that hasn't generated a cent for it's shareholders and compare your career status in 10 years with someone who took a job with the airline that can count it's losing quarters over the past 16 years on one hand and has seen it's shares rise from $10 in 1999 to $67.00 tod...

Re: Perimeter Aviation
To counter your argument CLguy, and I enjoy our analogy during Grey Cup weekend. It can't be compared to high school try outs - the pilot has already been drafted by the company. I suppose the problem may be companies hiring people on their ability to be equipment managers rather than players, and t...

Re: Perimeter Aviation
I have to disagree with you a bit CLguy. A training department past the flight school level is to train a pilot on the aircraft, not teach a pilot how to fly. If the candidate is coming in unprepared he is costing the company extra money and that being said, it is in the companies best interest to l...

Offer to drive for a company on an internship/probationary status. Many times a CDL trucking job will be more likely to a driver without experience if they agree to do a probation period, possibly without pay. Granted, working without pay is never ideal, but it can be what gets you in good with an ...

Re: getting a flying job these days !
Never was confused Doc, but if you aren't confused by basic economics you would understand the simple principles of supply and demand. The bottom line is in our current condition there is more supply than there is demand for 200 hour pilots. I'm not saying one should have to work the ramp, however; ...

Can't compare pilots to doctors and lawyers. The amount of education we get compared to those professions simply isn't close. I got my CPL in 18 months. Also the money we spend on our education is substantially less than those two.

I know you were joking - but in all seriousness, if you can get on the EI snowboarding team, take it!It is a benchmark for AB health co-joe minimums. Not sure that's the career path you want but beats the ei snowboard team.

Fly the Metro; unless you want to take your girlfriend for a spin in the 1900, she would find that easier to handle. But seriously, go where you want to be if WJ or Transat doesn't call. (not to sound negative, but music can stop)

What happens if/when you don't get the call (or PFO'd) and you've whored out the whole industry and yourself for 3+ years waiting, as is the problem...My suggestion is: put in your time (and hard work with it) and get out when you get the call.

Re: Future of pilots
Although automation is somewhat happening already, we are a long ways away from not needing people in the pointy end of the aircraft. The problem isn't getting the airplanes to fly without people, it's the trillions of dollars in infrastructure needed to also automate airports worldwide. So basicall...
