Re: WestJet Sunwing merger and seniority
I think BigQ spelled it out nicely. Sunwing was the best kept secret in Canada whilst us WS and AC folks were talking about how great things are relative to others. A lot of us appreciate that Sunwing will help reinforce our business and long term stability. Sucks about the deployments getting flush...

Re: More WJ layoffs
It should be painfully clear to WestJet pilots by now that they were let down by a few individuals who did not even trust them and made the decision for them as benevolent kings do for their subjects. Ummm, ok Westjet pilots flying in April and onwards are now being paid FULL PAY for their position...

Re: More WJ layoffs
Captains at WS made about 70K at the start. Oh and a little thing called stock options. I know that it’s really easy to say that with the benefit of hindsight, but WJ could have very easily been any number of failed Canadian airlines. Sure you sell the stock. But what if it falls before you sell? W...

Re: More WJ layoffs
Captains at WS made about 70K at the start. Oh and a little thing called stock options. When they took the job they were not putting pressure on anyone - especially not people that already work there. WS was also largely ignored at that time while the larger carriers were busy doing a lousy job serv...

Yep TBAYLX can run Flair as he chooses. Yep - usually a bad idea to hire in big groups from other airlines. There was a time when WS had to meter how many ex-C3 types were in a class because it was causing problems. I’m aware that WS has some dinosaur SOPs. Not a big deal. What is a big deal is that...

Perspective. I get the angst, it’s a natural emotion. To be objective however, wasn’t Swoop created to “close the back door” against the likes of the very company “tbaylx” is the Chief Pilot of? As a group, you’ve embarrassingly proven yourselves utterly powerless and impotent to thwart any commerc...

Re: Swoop alum
Years ago my wife and I have decided to go back to a more simple life (after a tragic event in our family). We sold the big house and lots of stuff we weren’t really using, then we moved into a small condo living an extremely minimalist lifestyle (fed up with the overconsumption!). Great decision; ...

Its a small industry gentlemen, burning bridges and all. Carry on. So very true. There are those that burn bridges and those that jump from ship to ship to ship and do nothing but cause damage. I'm still amazed how it only took 26 or so off the street hires to cause so much damage to this industry....

Re: A "NEW" One List?
The NC is looking way into the future well beyond a 2 year recovery. They are looking into the next contract. When the dust settles and it will - this group needs to be back where it was. WS is operating at 5% capacity. How many jobs of the 1700 lost do you think they could have saved @Furlough? At ...

Re: A "NEW" One List?
Well those who were upset about Encore making concessions, must be right happy now that the mainline MEC wasn't able to save a single job. Those top ~500 guys can now continue making 150-200K +ESP while the rest get laid off. Correct that the WS MEC did not reduce the number of lay offs. What they ...

Re: MOA2
Stated again in another way. If you don’t believe there is some cross pollination between the bargaining groups and some accountability then you are silly. If you think the Encore MECs sole responsibility is to their bargaining unit then you are silly. BEDE said it well above. The Encore MEC effecti...

The MOA did not save 150 jobs. The fleet plan moving forward at reduced capacity always included the Q. Way to go. JJJ We went from 150 spots to 292. 142 more open spots for mainline to bump into... ...at the ultimate cost of 737 jobs higher up the food chain. And at the cost of worse terms for tho...

Re: MOA2
To address a comment from above about the cautionary note to beware cancelling the one list because of the whipsaw threat with RJs. Here’s how that plays out. You all get flushed. Your MEC and your LEC get flushed. Your bargaining unit is full up with ex 737 guys who want to go back there. No shiny ...

Re: MOA2
A lot of misunderstanding on this thread. All the mainline guys wanted was the deal they fought for. There is no entitlement and no one is spoiled. Lots of the jet guys were Encore guys. All of us pulling in the same direction. Among other things - Encore gets a seniority spot on a list and the Jet ...

Re: MOA2
So if I understand it correctly the Encore MEC blew their load to save jobs. 150 or so jobs preserved at reduced wages until the end of the year. In the end almost every Encore pilot on the property today gets flushed and they leave a dirty turd for the guys bumping down. Maybe they save a handful o...

Dummies try to sue airlines all the time when they feel wronged in the hiring process. Hardly does it ever work. AC did nothing wrong to this guy when he didn't get his call. He isn't owed anything. Sad that when he plays it honest a lot of employers won't want to touch him. I get it - but not Acs f...

Re: WestJet Group Hiring Freeze
I have considered the prospect of a job share or pay cut. That would be cool as long as it came with fences. If you give up 10% at a place like WestJet then you need assurances that you will get it back. Guys on furlough also need to come back to the same job they left - not something worse than wh...

One advantage of a pension is that it saves pilots who are bad at money management.
