Re: Air Canada vs WestJet
I'll throw my 2 cents in, having come to AC in my 50s after a 27 year RCAF career. The first thing I noticed is that your days off at an airline are completely different from your days off in the military. I had days off in the service but there was always the nagging projects to be done, briefings ...

Re: Toronto base wins the PRIZE!
I have never listed for VO. I have done VO once from a cold call in all my years with AC. The MEC was very clear in their direction, it is you who are not following it. Do I really need to spell this out for you? Refusing VO NOW gives the Company a heads up to prep a July schedule that reduces the r...

Re: Toronto base wins the PRIZE!
Easy folks, slow down.
Our MEC recommended we enjoy our short Canadian summer with our families. It isn't summer yet. There should be no complaint with doing VO now, but come next month and August it will be a different story. Save the jabs till warranted.

Just to clarify, Pelmet didn't write that long post. It's the article linked at the top of the thread which appeared in the Toronto Sun today written by Brian Lilley. Your responses are excellent. Why not send them to Lilley to further his education on our situation.

Re: New hire thoughts
23 days: Sounds like my grandpa telling me he walked uphill both ways to school in his underwear. You’ve proved my point exactly. Currently looking at a 330 FO’s schedule this month and they are flying 21 days. In theory they could have 2 sims and annual training (1 at home day and 1 in the office)...

Re: New hire thoughts
I joined in my 50s and have no regrets. This month I'm working 15 days, just finishing 10 consecutive days off without taking vacation. I have 3 years with the Company. Hiring is going so fast you won't be junior very long, and the 4 year flat pay will be gone soon as well. You can upgrade and be of...

Hope the helps.

Re: WJ mainline cancelling GS due to lack of experienced applicants
Why leave before the contract gets finalized? Seems like quite a risk losing all those years of seniority. WestJet has their issues but I’ve learned throughout my career the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Wasn’t long ago AC was garbage and WestJet was the place to be. Could easily cy...

Re: Easiest "No" Vote to Come to this pilot group to date
Selfish....The deal is clearly to get rid of the flatpay for new hire and ease the transition to the jazz guy but in exchange other pilot will have to have a 85 dbm instead of 80. You do not want to do it because you don t have anything to gain out of it. You would not make this permanent gain for ...

Re: HELP NEEDED. SHOULD I GO WJ MAINLINE?
Look at the complete package and lifestyle, not just pay in the early years. At WJ you can fly a 737, there aren't really any other options. Other airlines have variety in metal with overseas and domestic options, and you can change every few years if things are getting stale. Just my 2 cents, from ...

Re: Headset recommendation?
I love my Clarity Aloft. No batteries, super comfy, won't interfere with glasses or a ballcap either. I find that the earpieces can be washed and reused many times if you don't want to replace them. I've only used about 3 pair in a year for less than $10.

I love my Clarity Aloft. No vice on the head, in fact nothing over your head at all. You can wear a hat, glasses, or anything you want without affecting the noise reduction. And no batteries to replace.
