Re: Cancelling IFR?

However, when I am in controlled airspace and I CANCEL IFR, why does the following happen: Me: "I would like to cancel IFR at this time and proceed VFR to destination" ATC: "Check you are cancelling IFR and confirm you are proceeding on a company itinerary?" So WHY does ATC ask me if I am on a comp...

Awesome! You may want to check out National Flyers Academy http://www.nationalflyers.on.ca/ They have plenty of information about courses for international students. They are also located at the Waterloo Regional Airport, and do have an affiliation with the WWFC that you seem to like. Lexx http://ww...

I see it's not just colleges offering aviation courses. The University of Waterloo through the Waterloo Flight Center at ykf is getting into flight training as well. Here's the link http://www.wwflightcentre.com/Career%20 ... /index.htm

Westjet already comes to Kitchener Waterloo. The question was about Jazz coming into YKF as well.

I had heard a rumor about next September, and was just curious if anyone had info about this that they could pass along.

Thanks

Fueller over-fill or did something fail? I'm just repeating what I heard, I know nothing about these aircraft, but apparently there are separate tanks within the wing. As one tank fills, a sensor or sorts automatically directs fuel into the next tank. Apparently this sensor failed, the pressure bui...

Well, with WestJet saying they are very happy with the passenger loads, there's the inevitable rumour that Jazz is interested.

Maybe Westjet was just marking territory :)

It's actually an ashphalt apron, and the guys with the yellow vests are WestJet. I assume those colors are the same everywhere. The fellow in red fueling is Flightline Services and the vehicles and the rest of the personnel are Region of Waterloo employees. This airport is owned and operated by the ...

What I found very interesting in the newspaper article was the loss by Nav Canada on this issue, and the release of tapes and transcripts. It went to the Supreme Court. Canada is now on par with the US. Tapes will probably be released to the media almost immediately. Not just pilot/controller tapes,...

If your flying in a busy area with multiple Control Towers (Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal) hang on to that code. If one Tower issues a code to an aircraft and enters the aircraft ident in the system, the aircraft ident is displayed in the data tag for the aircraft squawking that code. If you contact...

bigbonez Adler Aviation in ykf is a small outfit, and have 1 C172 and I think it's 2 C150s. The personnel seems nice enough, but I wonder how busy you'd end up being there, and I suspect they don't need any instructors anyway. The whole Kitchener Waterloo area is doing very well economically right n...

Nope.

They all seem to read back their taxi instructions, for whatever reason.

Re: Calls to the Cab

I was visiting a couple guys at the tower here the other day and could not believe the number of routine, "fluff" calls they got while I was there. The manager at that unit needs to get an unlisted number for the tower cab. One that only appears in aviation publications and not the phone book. We c...

Re: PFG's lament of flow times

Thanks for the info on the YTZ ILS. I'll give the Island a shout when it's published to confirm. The new approach at YTZ was funded entirely by Porter. It is a private approach. Now some private approaches are published and some are not. Nav Canada did the installation, and the Tower and Centre wil...

It is an unfortunate reality, but not everyone has the ability to do this job, and it's not simply a function of intelligence. If it was, then testing for the job would be far simpler. There's some kind of three dimensional spatial thought thing required. By luck, some people have it, some don't. It...

Well until Nav Canada comes up with a politically correct surface to air missle, 'instructions' are the only thing controllers have ever had in their bag of tricks anyway.

Thanks Lexx, but here is the thing. Once you establish two-way communication with the tower, your in. Not like you need a clearance to enter Class D in VFR. Again, sort of. My standard phraseology on initial contact when I deem it appropriate is, "Stand-by, remain clear of the zone, squawk xxxx". I...

Sort of. For example. You may certainly transit (a control zone), arrive or depart a controlled airport if your aircraft is not equipped with a transponder if you have authority from the concerned control tower. You do not have the right to do everything you want. You need permission. This way the t...

I think you'll all find that the procedures differs from one controlled area to another. It all depends on the equipment the controllers are working with. Slowly but surely a "stripless" system called EXCDS (Extended Computer Display System) is making its way to all control units. The units that req...
